Default Cold Car?

Since I live in Miami right now I haven't driven my car in 'colder' conditions (like 60) very much. When I started it up yesterday and today, though, I noticed a couple things that were kind of odd:

(1) The auto up on the windows when you closed the door was really slow. I mean really slow. Also rolling the windows up and down with the switch was slow too. It eventually went away after the car warmed up.
(2) Second gear feels like crap. It's hard to get into it and it almost doesn't feel like I'm shifting into anything at all...it's really loose once I get into it.
(3) If I don't start it up every day it starts up very rough. Sometimes it even gives me a puff of black smoke out the back.

Has anyone else had these problems? Is this something I need to be worried about? I know the car should be sluggish when I start it in the cold (I'm from MN) but this is just a little weird. I'm wondering if the window thing is a sign that something in the door is about to short out. I let the car warm up when I start it in the cold, wait for the revs to drop back down to normal before I head out.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure about the window and starting up thing. The gears can be a little tighter when the car is cold and even for the first few minutes after driving in cold weather. Might want to get the rough starting and smoke thing checked out though.

Well, I've only had my Z for a month, but since I live in cold-*** Iowa, I figured I could throw my 2 cents in here......

Our morning temps here have been around 20 degrees. When I start it up, I let it warm for about 5 minutes before even moving. Yesterday it was 8 friggin degrees outside and I did notice the shifts were slow and sticky. That tranny fluid needs a lot of time to warm up, I'm guessing. I haven't had any trouble with the windows being slow, but......then again......I don't put them down too often at 60mph and 20 degrees out.

I've never noticed any black smoke at all......just takes about 30 seconds for the exhaust (normal whitish color) to appear after starting it.

i'm in pa and it too has been cold for the past month or so. i let the car warm up for at least 5-10 minutes everytime i start it after having been sitting for over an hour and wait until the rpms reach about 1,000.

i have never tried the windows when it's this cold and you know my reasoning. i also never get a puff of smoke out the exhust.

the gear thing we all have at low temps. you think it's hard to get it into 2nd at 60 degrees....try 20...i have royal purple gear lube now and it seems that that god aweful 'clunk' into 2nd disappeared though when first shifting. After a run through the gears the oil warms from the engine heat and it shifts fine.

good luck with those windows, you electric motors maybe going bad...as for the smoke...i'd check your oil

So it sounds like I should get a little RP gear lube and get that put in.

The windows, I'm not rolling them down and driving around. It's the little 'sealing function' I guess is what you call it. You know when you close the door and the window moves up a bit to seal, that happens really slowly. I'm guessing hte smoke thing happens not so much that it is cold (I let it warm until the RPMs drop) but because it's been sitting. Oh well.

It's in the body shop now, getting fixed so I won't get to play with it for a while. Driving a Hyundai Santa Fe now. It's funny how when you go from driving the Z to driving something else it feels like you're driving a school bus...

Thanks for the help.

Here is another thing to check... . Slow windows and rough starts may indicate that your battery is dying. After warming up a little the battery gets charged up and the windows go up and down faster. As far as gear changing I am guessing it's the cold weather. Takes a bit to get the tranny all warmed up.
