Thumbs up Proper Forum Etiquette Regarding Signatures

I think it would be a good idea to setup some kind of guidelines regarding signatures on this board. I don't know if this has been tried before, and I am not a moderator so I don't know if I am out of place here. The problem is over the past couple weeks I have been noticing more and more signatures with huge lists of mods listed vertically, very tall images, and very wide images or multiple images all placed horizontally. Now this makes reading the forum hard not to mention take longer to load, and I think makes our forum look worse. I remember when I was a member of j-body.org and clubsi.com they had a feud cause clubsi.com made fun of all of j-body.orgs large signatures. Well now both boards have rules regarding signatures and they are both much better. Here are some simple rules to start with and modify:

1) For text signatures: 4 lines normal size, 8 lines small size and up to 90 characters per line. Empty lines are also counted. Font sizes above 2 are not allowed.

2) For images in signatures: one image up to 300 pixels wide, 100 pixels tall and 20k in size

3) If you do want to have text and an image, you can have a maximum of 2 normal lines (or 4 small lines) and one image (in a new line) up to 300 pixels wide, 60 pixels tall and 15k in size.

Comments and feedback are welcome.

You can turn off the option to show sigs in your profile.

I know I can, but I like useful signatures. If I turned them off I wouldn't know you had a 2004.5 Daytona Blue Touring MT. I also though don't need to know you have had 3 dogs.

I like the mod list because sometimes I see a car and want to know what's been done without having to post and ask the user or check his profile.

The dogs take up little space, they will remain for now until I begin the car mods.

Personally my recommendation would be to drop the post count. You will squash the desire to pad the count, which some clearly do here.

Please see my thread in "Suggestions" about upgrading My350Z.com's version of Vbulletin. The new version has a popular mod known as garage which allows members to add their car, timeslips, upload multiple (auto-thumbnail generating) photos, and post info.

Here's a preview of a site that uses it -- http://www.mustangevolution.com/forum/vbgarage.php?.

And here's my thread -- https://my350z.com/forum/showthread....readid=103389.

I forgot there was a Site Maintenance -> Feedback forum. This thread might be better placed there.

I love the garage idea. I tend to remove mine from time to time because it starts to seem too long and I do something different.

just make a pic ... throw on some pretty names ... add a dash of Sasame Street, hide Waldo back there somewhere ... and there you have it ... a nice sig.

It simply clues into what I have, and if others are curious, they will inquire for more info. I get a few PMs per week asking for more info .... but I am happy to reply

Make sure that you don't list a link to your sponsor's website or you'll get banned. Or at least it will be removed without your knowledge and then maybe you will get banned. It already happened to me once.

I agree. It takes up too much space and is eats up bandwidth as well.

There is nothing wrong with limiting the amount of text or the size of pics IMO.

I agree, too. A small pic is fine. A short list of mods is fine. But sometimes the signature is actually longer than the post which can be distracting.
