Low tire warning curse..
Does anyone else have problems with low tire pressure warnings? I've been without my car for 2 days while the dealer tries to figure out why my car keeps insisting the tires are low. I was getting warnings for pressures above 28 psi.

I think the problem was that it was giving a warning for pressures that shouldnt set off a warning, 28 psi is hardly so low to warrent a alarm.
I might be wrong. I have one tire at 29, no warnings thus far.
(is the top number right or left tire?)

Well . . . a few weeks back when I was checking out a Z at the dealer as it was being prepped, the tech. service manager told me that people are going to hate the tire pressure monitor. He said that the TPS doesn't account for air when it is added unless the system is recalcibrated. Basically, you have to go to the dealer to put air in your tires.
That said, the same tech. also told me that Z does 0-60 in "about 4 seconds"
so take the TPS statements for what they are worth.
If it is true, though, can the TPS be disabled?

with a few cuts here and there anything can be disabled...
anyway, yeah that 29 cold, all my tires are around 31 to 32 except that one, but when their hot they all get up around 34-35, shrug I donno, Im taking it into the dealer this weekend to get the tire patched. Ill tell them to fill them all to 35psi while they are in. if they have to reset it they can feel free.

I was wondering, did you ever find out what the problem was with the tire pressure monitor. i just p/u my Z today and I have the same problem. None of the tires read under 31 psi.
Any info. would be appreciated.

ok, the TPS work like this.
if any 1 tire hits 28PSI, the warning sounds, the lights come on, and will stay on.
now if while driving, you tires are at 29 but WERE at 28, the light is still on.
if your tire is at 28 again, the siren will sound again, it will sound everytime you start the car and a tire is 28 or less. the alarm will sound REPEATEDLY if you have more than one tire at 28 or less, trust me the dealer was nice enough to drop my tires to 30PSI hot on a 70degree day.
to get the light to go off, ALL 4 tires must hit either 32 or 33PSI, they must all hit it at the same time. once this happens, the dashboard light and flashing PSI are gone. atleast untill its cold again and the tires drop. but barring a atmosphere temp change, your tires will not be below 28 cold and over 32 hot. the temp outside has to rise for this to happen.
there is no need to bring it to a dealer to reset the monitors at any time, not if the car is working properly.

I ended up bringing my car in 2 times. They adjusted..replaced sensors...added air..and I haven't had a problem since. (12K+miles)
I ended up buying an accutire gauge and have been adding air every 2 weeks or so to maintain the 36 psi cold pressure.

be cautious, personally I strive for 30PSI cold. lower PSI gets better traction and a softer ride. it hurts drag and tire life. you dont want to go too low of course, then your just murdering tire life, and risking a blowout. but 36 cold might be a bit higher than needed. 35cold is reccomended, and even then I think thats a bit high for a performance car that is already running on some of the shittiest rubber around.
but hey, as long as your not having a problem with traction, and the ride isnt too firm, your just keeping your tires in good shape.
me on the other hand, Im trying to locate that feeling... right when the car is drifting, but still grabbing... its a very thin line, and if I change the pressure the feeling is gone untill I find it again. Its a major rush to just dance on that line, foot on the gas, with the back just squirming a little bit, but so little that not even VDC kicks in. If you havent found this sweet spot, I suggest you look, it is quite exhilarating.

The warning signal went off while I was driving. I pulled into a service station and all tires looked OK but one was below 28psi and falling. I had picked up a nail and had a slow leak. Low profile 18" tires dont look much different whether full or low on air. The tire pressure warning saved my bacon.
