Default Anyone know if dealers were given 2 Preorder allotments??

Because my dealer told me that I was among his second allotment of preorders...and I just have no idea if hes telling the truth because i have not gotten any confirmation letters or heard anything from anyone. Somehow, i feel this can't be normal.

O yea, and I ordered in mid-April, does anyone know if all pre orders could have been sold out already in April??

Thang,

Many dealers did get a second allotment but not because the first sold out. In fact, the pre-order ends today with many unsold units. I believe those that sold their entire initial allotment (as happens at my local dealer) received additional cars to sell from dealers who did not sell theirs.

I have a fax from Nissan I'll post later this evening that explains things in more detail.

They did get additional allotments, but they are considered the first and only pre-order. ZISME also said that.

I think it's safe to say if you ordered between 1/15/02 and 6/17/02, you are among the official pre-orders. You might want to confirm with Nissan or your dealer though.

Hey, Zthang, what dealer did you go through? I went through Robbins, in Humble a couple months ago, and they told me originally that the first allotment was full, (as did all other dealers here in Houston) but I would be on 2nd allotment, and would get my car in late July, or early Aug Well, later they told me I was moved up to first allotment, and July for sure, August only if disaster struck. I just nodded along with him, I knew dealers really had no clue, and I expected mid august. Now, I think it will be early Sept, but that's ok.

So, about your question...I have heard of a 2nd allotment too, and I believed the dealer when he told me that they would be a few weeks behind the first allotment. Of course, this is the same guy who told me he would call within 2 weeks of my order, and send me a weekly e-mail with latest news...haven't heard from him since I changed to a manual tranny, a week after my initial order. It's a shame, but the dealers don't seem to know a bit about the process, and they don't seem to be ashamed to make it up if they don't know an answer.

Believe me Zthang, I really, really hope I am wrong on this one. Even better would be to email ZISME directly. You can find his email on zcar, but judging by your post there, that they said they can't even submit the order til september, I think they sold you a line just to get your money. You could also call or email other dealers to see if its bs. try contacting bluefish or nissantiff for more info, just to check up on your dealer.

Good luck
Mike

My $.02 cents. There is only one pre-order, but there are two shipments. The first shipment is the Aug-Oct time frame and the second shipment is Sept.-Nov. time frame. That is why the confirmations everyone has received have one of those two ranges. Now unfortunately, some dealers have been confusing the issue by refering to the second shipment (Sept.-Nov.) as a second pre-order, it is not. But Nissan did split the shipments between the two so that all the dealers would get some of the earlier shipments -- rather than only the dealers who got the earliest orders taking all the early shipments. When the dealer said you were in the second pre-order what he meant was that they had sold all of their alloted Zs in the first shipment (Aug.-Oct.) and yours would be in the second shipment (Sept.-Nov.). Of course with the two month overlap between the first and second shipments, I think it is possible that someone with a confirmation of Sept.-Nov. could receive their order before someone with a Aug.-Oct. confirmation (I am only guessing on this last point, and for that matter I could be completely wrong about all of this but I think this is how the so-called second pre-order works).

If that is the case, then the dealer is full of sh&t. That is not a pre-order, that is just a sale. The pre-order ends today.

Two "shipments?" I doubt it.

My car was originally scheduled to arrive in August (I have the paperwork), and then the dealer inventory info was updated for a September arrival (I have the updated paperwork as well). I think the fact that Nissan has added 20 days to their counter substantiates ZISME's info that very few cars will arrive in August, if any.

I believe that later confirmation notices that offered the "Sept-Nov" time frame rather than the earlier "Aug-Oct" time frame are only reflecting the updated delivery schedule for all pre-orders and not an indication that there are two shipments.

What would be the point of two overlapping groups of pre-orders? It doesn't make sense.

Yup, robbyn is right. I ordered from a dealer I trust during the first week of pre-sale, but they only had 4 slots and they were all full. They told me that, but I ordered from them anyway figuring at least I know whom I'm dealing with, I was number 5 in line, or number 1 on their waiting list for regular orders depending on how you like to look at things. They explained to me that they wouldn't even order the car until they got their first shipment, but they still guarenteed(sp?) msrp and took a refundable deposit, just like they did with the first 4. Long story short: they got an additional slot, and I was put into the allocation. I got my confirmation on June 4th (my birthday ), and it said my car would be here sept-nov. But you're in the same position I was in before: when they get their september order allocation from Nissan, they'll order your car. I would find out if you're on a waiting list of some sort for the post-pre-order orders.

I just spoke with the GM of my dealership who has been totally honest and accurate with me about everything (so far).

He told me that there is only one pre-order period, and it's over. Any dealer who says he's going to order a car to your specs in September is just trying to tie up a deal right now. In short; it ain't gonna happen. You'll get a car, and it may even be exactly what you want, but it's going to be the luck of the draw depending upon what the dealer gets in his next (non-preorder) allocation.

He also said that Nissan has pushed back everything about three weeks, which jives with the reset counter on the website.

I have no idea of knowing if anything he told me was correct, so take if for what it's worth.

sounds like this A-hole dealer waited to tell him at the last minute so it was too late to order somewhere else.

Yes, I recieved confirmation about 1 month after my order. I ordered mine in mid-April also, and was originally told, like you, that I was in 2nd allotment. Later they told me I was in 1st allotment, and on the confirmation, it says "...arrival during the period of September through November."

Sounds fishy if you haven't recieved a confirmation yet. Mine says that the dealer is primary contact for any questions. It gives a # if you have additional questions, 800-350-7814.

I hope it's not true, but if you havent got this confirmation page, you may not have a car pre-ordered. I don't remember the exact date I ordered mine, but it was around 4-24. I was told the same thing as you, second allotment, and may just have lucked out when someone ahead of me cancelled, but the dealer never said anything like that when he was taking my $1000. I don't know what recourse you would have if it turns out they lied to you (a car dealer????NEVER!!!), but maybe that 800 # can help you out.

A real shame we can't get some accurate and timely info on our orders Good luck

Several dealers I talked to in the Midwest back in the Feb-March timeframe said that Nissan was going to reallocate unused slots from dealers that didn't move their allocations to dealers that did. The original allocation was based on historical dealer volumes, and the re-allocation was to be based on how quickly they filled their slots. Many dealers were taking deposits under the assumption they were going to get additional allocations. If you were in line for one of these, it would have been ordered by now.

If the dealer won't help you, call Nissan Consumer Affairs at 1-800-NISSAN1, and explain your situation. With a little sweet talk, they can check to see if your car was actually ordered by your dealer. They may tell you they will call you back in 24 or 48 hours - they actually do this (most of the time).

Good Luck!
