My hood, hatch and gas cap never lined up. The fit was always shoddy right out of the showroom.

unfortunately, this is a problem with ALL daytona blue Z's.
Same is true for Nissan's other cars, I have a DB Z and a Sunburst Spec V.

Shrug you act like Nissan has the same quality/attention to detail as a Honda/Acura/BMW/Lexus. Nope sure doesn't. I was always impressed with how tight the clearances and fitment are for Honda and BMW (03 Accord SE and 03 530i). I traded the BMW for the 350Z and don't really regret it (payments were a LOT less).

Whew....after all this whining, I feel lucky. No rattles, squeaks or problems. The fit and finish is not that far off my wife's Audi A6, and far better than my 2 C5 Corvettes.

Hell, the 350Z is only a moderately priced sports car that has great performance for the dough....nothing more. Even if mine did have such problems, I'd just quit worrying about the little things and enjoy the hell out of it.

What you are describng is VERY common even with other colors and makes,
i spoke to Many body / paint shops they say its the Flex additave they add to the paint going on plastic or semi flexable body parts and is completely normal, the silver shades also show this effect , its hard to do a "perfect: match with 2 different compositions of paint.

i've NEVER seen it this bad though... and i am a skilled painter.

none of the bikes i've shot myself or friends have shot come out that bad between tank to plastics.

silver is by far the worst to work with, agreed... but Nissan did a decent job with silver. i think they used two different shade base coats... like black ABS plastics, but a white rust preventative on the metal.

but of course, it affects neither the performance but gave it a buttload of bang for the buck.

as for the guy who says his fit and finish were awful since the none of the lines matched up even when he bought it... why did you buy it? my lines match up quite well, especially considering the array of materials used to skin it.
