those times seem a bit odd. I love the Z, but somehow i dont believe that we can beat a lotus, sl55 amg, ferrari 575M, and a noble!!

But 350z has the same time as RX-8... do you think that RX-8 can be so fast ?

Actually, the RX-8 would be nearly the same around a track. Since the rotary's so small and light, its mounted really far back and the weight distribution is pretty near perfect. They handle really well, I drove 3 before I bought my Z. I bet the 350Z and RX-8 were driven in good track conditions, and the SL55 AMG, Ferrari 575, the Vanquish, and some of the others were driven in the rain. I know for a fact the Vanquish was, cause I saw that episode. That probably explains how our cars are almost 3 seconds faster than a ferrari

Some of the lap times were done in the wet and some in the dry, which isn't indicated in this table (which explains Elise etc.).

But on they're track the 350Z, RX8 and M3 are equally fast under the same contitions, which doesn't surprise me.

M3 more power, but also more weight and more understeer
RX8 less power, but also less weight and good balance

Uups, BigMoeTaki42 was faster.

andreas/bigmoe has it right... i've watched every episode of top gear and what that chart isn't taking into account are track conditions

moreover, they did the rx8 and 350z test on the same episode and hinted that the reason for the same track times is exactly as andreas said... z = more power, worse balance and rx8 = less power, better balance

also the performance of the m3 in *this case* echos a best motoring vid where a Z, S2000 and M3 raced on a road course and the M3 fell behind both cars

i've personally seen rx8's get spanked on a roadcourse before by z's m3's and miatas. If there is any sort of straight on the course then there isnt much the rx8 can do even with as good of handling as they have. These were very equal drivers btw, all instructors at the track. Also if you want some "proof" on video you can pick up the rotary reborn episode of best motoring. I dont trust times necessarily on videos/magazines but i've seen them get taken quite a few times on a track.

I saw that episode of Top Gear as well where they kinda razzed the car. All the more funny that they gave it their TOP GEAR CAR OF THE YEAR 2004 award.

For anyone who saw the review where Jeremy Clarkson tore apart the Z, you should know that he's the ONLY person at Top Gear who dislikes it. In the January 05 issue, Jeremy himself says, "The blokes on this magazine love the 350Z. They say it looks good, sounds good and by golly it drives good. It's their current favorite coupe. That's as may be. The one I drove was so noisy and tiring to drive that it gave me a migraine the size of Wales".

In previous Road&track issue (2003 or2004?), the 350z has better lap time then 911 and M3 (David vs Goliath)

I guess you do not get the TV program. We do. The first 350z they drove was an evaluation car and had different suspension set up from what they now get. It handled like a pig so they didnt like it. Production cars have different set up (same as rest of world?) and it now goes around corners as we know. Now they love it. Jeremy is a ****** but he is quite funny on the program. And it is a good program. The cool wall is what they think is cool not how good a car is. Criteria is things like is it a hairdressers car? And what Jeremy wants. Half the postings on the cool wall are to get arguements going>>
Hope this helps.
