Sorry to hear about your loss...

I know how it feels. I remember my Eagle Talon TSi kissed the median during a snowstorm. It just wasn't the same after it was repaired. Just the thought of having it all wacked up was a hard thing to get off my mind.

I just went to the body shop to sign the paperwork and to get my personel stuff out of the car.

When I saw the car in front of me I started shaking, just seeing all the damage for the first time really after the crash made me appreciate how lucky I am to be alive. One of the guys at the body shop told me it's amazing how strong this car is other cars would have been much more smashed up.

I will get an estimate around thursday but so far it looks like they'll repair it. The shop looks pretty decent

Basically the whole front is done with, the right front side and the whole back plus exhaust. the radiator is smashed in and the hood is crumbled. The passenger side dash needs to be replaced because of the air bag. I was laughing they put down initial estimate $2500 I told them you probably wanna add a zero to that.

I am sooo depressed.

I wonder what they are trying to pull with only $2500 ... Sounds like your car may be a total loss. Even if they used junk yard parts no way with the damage you said.

I always wonder about shops when they give estimates, its pretty much asking them if they want to work on the car. They know if they quote something insane the insurance company will total the car.

Sorry to hear about what happen . .i know how you feel.

Same thing happened to me 2 months ago. Was driving on the expressway in the left lane and then all of a sudden lost control in the rain. I think the stock bridgestones suck. Heard a lot of hydroplanning with those tires. I did like 3 360's across the freeway and went down a ditch into a chain link fence. I was lucky since I didnt hit an other cars or the median. The car only had front right fender damage and the wheel was a bit scratched up. I dont drive the Z in the rain anymore.

$2500 is a joke. For the work on my car it was $3000 and that was just a repaint of the right front fender, buffing of the headlight assembly, a new front bumper and one new track wheel. If your track wheels are damaged, then dont have them refinished if that is an option. Theywont match with the others .. mine was refinished and it didn;t match .. had them replaced at $1500 for one wheel!

Absolutely do not sign anything until you are happy with the settlement. You have a limited time to file but don't let the insurance get the better end of the deal.

I have stock tires and I hate them, the tread sucks, you can even get traction on a dry road less long wet. I was on my way home from a weekend trip at Oklahoma State University. And it had rained about a hour earier and I was coming down a little farm road strech of highway and there were puddles everywhere and I was hydroplanning throught them one after another and it scared the crap out of me because if I went off the road I might not have been found for a day or two!! But I want to get rid of the stock tire ASAP anyone know of a tire thats worth buying?

well, the only matching set of All-season tires on Tirerack are Avon Tech M550. I know many folks don't like going with All-season tires, but, personally, I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of traction on those perfectly dry summer roads so that I can drive in harsher conditions without fear of spinning off the road.

i got a set of the Michelin All Season Sport tires for Christmas, and I have been able to tell a big difference in the snow, cold, and rain than when I had the stocks.

Usually I wouldn't worry about the rain but this is the worst I've seen in 17 years in la (no I am not 17 but 37 ) it just won't stop raining

the $2500 were just a place holder basically they will give a real estimate on thursday after they take the car apart

I'm in Boston.

I would under NO circumstances drive a Z with stock tires in the snow or sleet. From one personal experience, it's similar to trying to play hockey on the ice in sneakers - perhaps worse.

I have had no trouble driving in rain. However, I do tend to drive pretty conservatively in the rain and FWIW, I wouldn't want to hit a puddle at high speed.

TCS and VDC can only help so much. I did a 360 in my Z last year on new years day in VA. IT happen at a stoplight I guess I pulled off from the light to hard. Nothing was damaged and no one was hurt. It was dry as a bone that day. I'am glad you didn't get hurt.

Right after I got my 05 Enthusiast around Thanksgiving I took it for a road trip. I got caught in a rainstorm and with less than 2000 miles on the stock Bridgestones I almost lost it 2 or 3 times. Anything over 40-50 miles per hour and it was almost uncontrollable in the rain.

As soon as I got i got home I went and put some 245/45/17 Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's on front and rear. This made a huge difference. I dont worry about driving my Z anymore in the rain. I would recommend getting rid of the crap tires that came on the car to anyone who will listen. As a added bonus the car sticks and handles a lot better in the dry now too.
