Nothing like digging up the past, throwing some cologne on it and trying to have a conversation with it!

Well, my Z finally showed up. I'm a little disappointed in the fit/finish, even compared to other Z's I have seen. The aluminum paint on the hand-brake *** is scratched and the leather is loose and wrinkled at the edges. There is also slight scuffing on the doors--this should not have happened so soon. My bose definitely has the bass problem others have spoken of as well. After having the chance to actually spend time in the Z, it does not have the interior quality of a 35k car.

More to the point. The car sounds like a sports car, is relatively loud like sports car, has very tight steering like a sports car, and the ride is bouncy like a sports car, but one little thing is missing: POWER!

Somebody please tell me that this is just because the car is not broken in. I didn't lead-foot the gas, but I did try to get a feel for passing power. Unfortunately, the Z had little. I just test drove a 330i two days ago. That unbroken-in sedan would leave the Z in the dust. Even my aging N/A 300zx w/ an extra 150 lbs and 65 fewer horses feels faster!

However, all the numbers tell me that this can't possibly be true. I'm going back tomorrow--somebody convince me that the Z has some power after break-in.
I currently have a 2001 Mustang 260hp & over weight, and when I test drove a 2004 350Z 287hp it didn't feel as powerful at first. But my wife said we were going pretty fast base on the mph which I didn't see myself too busy checking out all the cool stuff. Either way I order a 2004 Z and not worried about not out performing other cars in it price class. Frans

I second this. While the Z does not have the materials you'd find in a BMW or benz, I do believe its materials will be just as durable in the long run..and the interior is MUCH more original and innovative. I can't remember the last benz that came with a gauge pod. You might think those soft-touch rubber molds slathered on BMW dashes are great...but you'll see after 3-4 years that they discolor. The M3's interior (base) is total crap - cheapo cloth seats (yes - the cloth quality is every bit as poor as the Z's), glossy black plastic trim. Hell go look at an S2k and you'll see that it's interior is every bit as cheap as the Z's...and with far fewer features to boot!

I would definitely like to see the Z's interior improved, but it is every bit as good as a $30k evo/sti, the now-defunct $30k F-body, the popular $50k vette, the $80k viper, the $55k boxster S, and the $32k S2k.

I guess it's all just a matter of preference.

The key is when the car hits about 4,000 RPM's, from there to Red Line it really moves, especially in gears 3-6; however, in the latter 2 gears you will find yourself going from about 130 MPH to 155 MPH.

Try it; it is fun.

there must be some confusion. I have owned 330ci. They are very nice and has a good amount of torque, however the Z is a faster car by any means. If u r trying to be funny the joke is on ju cuz u r not making any sense or u just plain don't know how to drive.

Trade it in, then you won't have to stress about anything...sounds like the 330i is the car for you.

Hm. This is the first thread on all of the Z forums so far that actually upset me. Why? Some of you guys don't seem to be able to see past your nose... Bill T, ares, MikeyDNY was describing the car HE drove. I can attest to slowness in MY 9K miles Z. Note the words with capital letters. Just because your Zs are 245whp on the dyno, does not mean others are. I, for one, am I disappointed buyer with 230whp to show for it, and doggone slow pickup. How so, you say? Well...

1. Never broke into 5s on 0-60 runs, mostly mid 6s. Now, you're gonna say 'baaad driver'... well, okay...

2. ...measured 4K to redline in 2nd gear = 3.3 to 3.5s

3. ...measured 2K to redline in 1st gear = 2.8s to 3.0s

4. add ANY shift time to that and you get -- yes -- over 6s.

So, I acknowledge that some Zs are fast and some are slow. MikeyDNY has had experience in a slow one. Oh, and MikeyDNY, despite what they tell you, it does NOT become faster after break in -- and, let me put a disclaimer -- not in my experience.

So, flame me all you want, but I get dusted by WRX wagons, SRT-4s, as well as other Zs. How would you feel if it was your Z?

Now, MikeyDNY, I suggest testing another Z. Don't be shy to test both auto and manual. You'll probably find a fast one, and not repeat my mistake.

Cheers.

Hey, this is an ancient thread? Who brought it back to life? Dang it... I just responded to a Mummy . Nevertheless, argument stands... too late for Mikey, though, he's probably driving his 330Ci by now...

It is not necessarily true that he had a slow Z. Like Dweeb said earlier because of the linear HP/TQ curve, the Z feels slower than it is. The reason why people come on the board and post this garbage is because of ignornace. Too many people go by "feel" alone. That's why the STi seems like a Ferarri compared to the Z. Because it "feels" a ridiculous amount faster. I have personally driven in one. The STi is abviously faster, but not even close to as fast as it feels. MikeyDNY was driving a Z with 7 miles! The ECU is still in "safe mode" because the engine needs to be broken in properly. Revving it and trying to see how fast it is is useless. Mikey, maybe you should take a ride in a Z that is broken in. If you're still not convinced IDK what to tell you. I have heard a Dodge dealer say the new Maxima (265hp) feels like it would blow the Z out of the water. He has driven both, but notice he said "feels". It has less HP, and is much heavier. Not gonna happen, feel isn't everything.

Dweeb, and a few others who have posted some ECU info have given out informative information. I suggest you reread these particular posts.

330i leave the Z in it dust? Don't think so bro. My mom and my sister both have 330's and while they are very nice cars, my Z is much quicker. Maybe you just like the Bimmer better (which is okay) but as far as speed the Z is the one. Here's another thing to think about, the BMW just won't get the looks that my Z does. I've only had mine for about 3 months now but everywhere I go I get compliments. People always asking "Is that your little car out there? That's nice!" followed by the "What is it?". I can honestly say that I have never stopped at a gas station without being questioned about my car. The other day it took me 30 min to buy a pack of cigarettes because 3 guys wanted to quiz me about the Z, look under the hood, etc. I hear a lot of complaints about the Z on this forum but lack of speed is not one of them. I'd be glad to run a 330i and walk all over it to show 'ya.

just reading mikey's posts made my troll sensors go haywire....he's using the oldest troll trick in the book...troll starts thread "just bought a <insert car model here that said troll wishes to flog> and it's slow/crappy/etc etc."

obviously he owns a 330ci. surprising how many here think this guy is legit. he wont even post a pic of his 'z'.

guys i really don't think there is a need to defend the Z. Its an awsome car and i love every inch of it and im sure many of u guys defending it feel the same way. Everyonce in a while someone will come on and say the Z is slow. In such cases u show the numbers, times, etc. and tell them to face the facts. Its no Enzo, but i think its evident with the level of satisfaction and pride we have for this car that it is well worth the 26-35k. Not everyone will like this car and thats fine.

It is true that the Z has a linear power curve. There's no sudden rush like turbo cars. Plus the throttle is drive by wire, so you have to floor it to get 100% of the power.

I raced a few 330s both coupes and sedans at the track... they run high 14s and low 15s... I ran 13.0 stock... how can the Z be slower?

and what's with the 2 year old thread?

This thread is ridiculous... "The Z doesnt feel fast, but the BMW does" WTF? Who cares, it IS faster. No questions about it. The Z is faster in every aspect.
