So tired of apologizing to STI owners...
I love my Z. I love the Sti. I test drove 05 Sti not too long ago and it was definitley faster than My Z....after I had the pedal down for 2 seconds. There is still turbo lag. I also felt like I was sitting up too high. after the test drive when I got back in my Z, it just felt better, more connected with the car and road. Probably the same as when you buy new sneakers and then put the old ones back on. Basically, the STi is a sedan, and feels like a sedan and looks very "different", although I personally love it. I have thought about trading my Z for one because I'm in NY and with some blizzaks, I could dive it year round in the snow. I don't go to the track and I don't street race, so an extra .5 seconds to 60 and 1/4 don't mean too much to me. Most 1/4 times are low to mid 13's for the Sti and under 14 for the Z. Big Deal. To get the those times on the Sti, you have to launch at extremely high RPMs from what I hear, but I'm just a 30 year old magazine racer
The Z just looks and sounds insane although it isnt too practical. I would get an Sti as my second car, however in 2 or 3 years, there are going to be TONS of amazing cars to choose from and the STi will fade. The Z will still be a looker in my opinion. Even 90s 300 are still head turners. Classic. I don't belive an STi will last 10 years or more.

As far as the Z being a midlife crises car... well I hope the hell I can afford something better when I go thru my mid life crises... Im talking Ferreri baby
STI Huh?
Here's a quick story...
I was parking at a mall and I passed a lady and her little son, maybe 5 or 6 years old. He pointed at me so I waived. When I parked my Z and got out... The lady and kid were walking towards me...
Lady: Hi Sir, what kind of car is that?
Me: A Nissan 350Z.
Lady: (to her son). See? It's a Nissan 350Z. Remember that, okay?
Son: Wow, Mommy! I want to drive one of those when I grow up!
The 350Z is an official dream car! Ha!

Do you want to street race or what? You're 57 not sure why you care who's faster.
Oh No! Time to reload my vitamins! Oh and I can't forget to take my heart pill...
Age has nothing to do with it! The Dr. evidently cares because he is on this forum. See thats the magic of the net man, you never know. Rest assured some of us older people are'nt scared of our rides. Thanks

I've beaten the following cars on the twisties of Sepulveda BLVD as it turns its way through Encino and Bel Air.
911 (all flavors)
911 GT2
Viper GTS
Vette
350z
SRT-4
Z06
M3 (countless)
Z3
RX8
RX7
M Roadster
S2000(countless)
360 Modena
CL55 AMG
WRX
STi
EvoVIII
Miata
Mazda 3 and 6
Mini S
Boxter
BoxterS
GTO
Camaro
Cobra
Civic (countless)
Accord (counteless)
Jetta turbo hatch
330ci
I've lost to the following cars on this same road
Noble
Enzo
Murcielgo
S2000
Mazda 6 (he really out drove me, it was stunning!)
All of these drivers of these cars pushed it to their limits (we've hit stupid speeds) and yet my little Z out handled them. Or should I say, *I* out drove them. It's not the car as much as it's YOU the driver.
Enjoy your car, it's sexy, fast, and sticks to the road. If you care about straight line stop light runs, buy a Cobra or Z06. Or better yet, pick up an old Chevelle and put a 572 crate motor in it.

Would you say the SL500 or 645ci are less notable cars than an STi or EVO because of sheer performance? I hope not. I wouldn't think twice if you asked me what I wanted. Buying a car shouldn't be focused on one thing alone, but rather as a package. You need to take into account what kind of performance you are looking for, the price you can pay, if you agree with the styling, and if the car fits your overall lifestyle. I'd never think about getting an STi or EVO because they're faster. I'd give the S4 some thought however, because it is much classier than those factory rice rockets.

Oh, I don't know that it could be called that in my case because I am not in any mid-life crisis that I know about
Actually, I am way past that "mid-life" crisis stuff. And, I drive a Z. A lot, I might add, as I am a few short clicks from 75,000 miles on ol' Marilyn. She was the first Z on these boards to hit 50,000 miles and her and I have yet to worry about what to say to other car owners, and we certainly have no need to apologize to them, regardless of make/model. We just drive and grin and grin and drive. We're getting along just fine, this old man and Marilyn, thank you very much.
Oh, I almost forgot, I'll never see 65
years of age again and the guys at Firebird and Speedworld drags love to see the old man and Marilyn do their stuff on the 1/4 mile. I celebrated my 64th birthday by treating Marilyn and myself to an around the USA 11 week (11,000 miles) roadtrip just to get used to each other
Mid-life crisis? Nawww, just an old man and his car called Marilyn doing there thing, mile after mile, grinning as we go.

Where does one get one?
It is a Kaminari spoiler from a while ago and it was due to be re-designed when I grabbed it.

Yes, she is "Marilyn the Z" because of this pose that I shot shortly after bringing her home from the dealership.
Note MM's hand giving Marilyn a gentle push

My GF and I were out driving one night and I spotted an Evo VIII.
"Hey, Laura, what do you think of that car? It's got 300hp, awd, about the same price as a Z. Would you think about getting one?"
"Hell, no!"
"Why?"
"Cause it's ugly!"
(me playing devils advocate) "Are you sure? I mean, it's faster than the Z in a drag race, and probably a bit faster on the road..."
"I don't care, it's F'n ugly! I mean, look at that wing! What were they thinking?"
She then procedes to look at me as if I turned into quasimoto and says something like, "don't tell me you want THAT now?"
There you have it guys, the chicks love the Z.

Since this thread is all about opinions os these two (both very fine) cars, I'd like to add that the STI *can* be made to look quite nice IF you remove that hideous spoiler (I've always hated spoilers though...) AND you upgrade to a FMIC *and* get a normal looking hood! Throw in some other HP upgrades and you have a very powerful sleeper (NO gold wheels!!) that will surprise just about anybody you race.
Honestly, I'd like to have both a Z and an STI (configured as above) for longer road trips. Why not have it ALL!!!!(?)

The reason I beat most people is usually because:
1) Their smart and know street racing is dumb
2) They don't know their cars well enough to push it further
3) They're just pussies.
The GT2 hauled *** in the straights, but in the turns he just powered down and wouldn't commit. I stayed 2 cars ahead of him.

Even if the 350z only had 200 HP, I would still considered it based on its looks.. plus the price would probably drop to around $20k for it.... I can't say the same thing for the STI... Only reason guys like the STI is because of its performance, otherwise the majority would not own one..
Personaly I prefer a all around car.. Good Performance, Good Handling and Good looks....
STI reminds me of a ugly girl with big hooters... Guys are willing to date her because of the big hooters, take away the big hooters and most guys wouldn't give her the time of day....
