Z and NSX
I don't know if they have been compared before but I was just wondering how our Zs stack up against the NSXs. I was checking out some specs on it and though its about 3 times more expensive, the performance and power output seems close if not worse.
the 1991 to 1996 (?) NSX's are slower (3.0L), and the Z could hang if not beat it by a bit. But the newer models (3.2L) are surprisingly quick...and given the same driver, the NSX would beat the Z by quite a bit (learned first hand sitting in my friend's 2001 NSX). It's lighter and more agile, and corners better as it is a mid-engined car. But of course NSX parts are harder to source and a lot more expensive.
Yes the power output is similar, but when the twin cam vtec kicks in, its over for the Z. Stock for stock of course. It also has a higher rpm range to play with, and I believe the final drive is a bit shorter (in the 4s). AND it used to have 16 inch rims, and now 17 I think...which is less rotating mass.
oh and one more thing...it doesnt have a feathering recall!!!
Even now a used NSX will usually go for more than a brand new Z depending on the year and condition and of course mileage.
Your question was kind of vague...but does this kind of answer it?

I was going to say that if it's a newer NSX, I'd put my money on that. But then I poked around.....
I thought the NSX was way lighter but I went to Acura's site and comparing the NSX to a Z Track....the NSX is only 75lbs lighter.
I don't know if I can trust their comparisons though....they say the Track has no armrest storage. lol
Check out the comparison here
I love the NSX but going by the specs, the only advantage I see it having over the Z is handling.

I didn't really have a question, I was just curious how our Zs would be against an NSX (non-turbo of course) given the substantial price difference. At ~$90k I'd figure it would closer to a 911 turbo.

I'd classify it as a supercar. It's exotic looking, handles like a dream, and as stated above has great numbers. Horsepower is down compared to other cars due to the 280hp restriction in Japan, hence the large advancements in 4 to 6 cyllinder engines (as opopsed to the 8 to 12 cyllinders competing Euro cars have).
I was at a track day a Gingerman with a bunch of guys from the NSX club. I was way faster than all of the NSX guys in my group even though they were running Hoosiers on magnesium wheels and all had were my Nitto 555R2's. Of course, the guy with the gutted, supercharged, coilovered NSX was way faster than me...
my friend has a 91 nsx with around 14x,xxx miles. I usually get him off the line up to about 60 and havent raced him since then.... he did run a 13.9 in the quarter mile just rolling off the line cause he didnt want to screw with his old *** clutch... but from what ive heard.... even the older models can hit around 180-190 miles an hour soooo im not sure if you guys want to start a race with an NSX on the highway.
One thing I heard about the NSX, especially the newer ones, is that they are underrated. Quite a few of them stock hit nearly 300 whp IIRC.
Straight line speed they may be similar, but those things are NASTY on the track.

the older NSX has horrible gearing. My buddy has one and his 2nd gear goes up tp like 80mphish. They arent much of a drag racer, i dont think that was its purpose. But at highway speed they are pretty quick.

The NSX does handle amazing and it feels like it is on rails, but look at the skidpad and slalom on the NSX and the Z track actually has better numbers according to magazines. The NSX-R, that is not available here, is an extreme track machine. The suspension setup on it is totally different then the normal NSX.

Its to bad they couldnt keep the price range of the NSX to around $50k like when they first came out... $90k for a NSX is way to much... It's starting to push Ferreri territory (the V8's Ferreri's anyways)
