Default How hard is is to sell a modded Z?

I'm thinking of selling my Z but I was wondering if I was going to have a hard time since it's modded. I don't want to restore it to stock.

Thanks for any help.

Your usally better off taking the parts of and selling them seperatly... That said you should probably get few thousand over high blue book for you car with those mods... Trade in wise, the dealership will not give you squat for the mods...

I've got 25K miles and I'd be happy with $27K. Do you think that is a reasonable amount to expect?

Thumbs up

Easily get 27k IF YOU FIND DIEHARD Z WANTER, or someone that knows what they are buying. An ENTHUSIAST will pay it good luck. I would buy if I had the money, You can never have enough Z's

The problem with mods is that they limit the people who will want to buy your car. If you're lucky and find a car enthusiast who wants to buy your car, they will probly appreciate big rims, a loud exhaust/intake, and gains from performance mods, so they will probly pay more for it. On the other hand, if you get a 50 year old housewife she most definitely will not pay more for a modded car. I think the best route is to part out most of the mods then sell the car stock or semi-stock. And by the way, you should be able to get 27k without too much trouble.
If you don't mind my asking, why are you selling your baby? Good luck with it either way, let us know if you decide to part it out (cause I might be interested in some parts )

any car is hard to sell when it is modded...personally if i were in the market for a used car, i would not even look at a car that was modded

I've got a Murano on order and I was going to trade in my winter beater car and just make payments on the Murano. I figured out that I really don't want to be making payments and I really don't want the Z any more. It's really sad that I've decided this after I put so much time and money into it.

Do you think a dealership would consider a trade in?

The dealership would consider a trade in, but they will not give you hardly any extra money for the mods you did (but when they re-sell it they will raise the price because of the mods on the car). Your best choice would be to try and sell it privately. Put it on autotrader.com and some other websites. Good Luck.

dude, you're going to get so much more money if you just sell off your parts and restore it to stock. It's worth the work.

I think it's better off to sell the parts seperately and put it back to stock.Just take it this way, if I'm the buyer and u have aftermarket parts;I will for sure know that u drive it hard..not that u do but that's one think I look at.If u have a stock z,who knows?u might drive it hard, u might not...

That's what I think plus u can sell those in e-bay or up here.U might not get the price u want but better off than trade in straight at the dealer.

Trust me...... You're better off taking the parts off and selling them.

For what it costs to take the parts off and put back to stock will end up costing him anyways. And no 27K is not fair. Don’t expect much over kbb trade in. The cars selling on this forum now are going for below that. I'd put the wheels back to stock.

A diehard Z guy, hell anyone pretty much knows how to price cars now using sources like KBB.com. And when people are selling for under trade in you cant expect retail. The dealer will give you what NADA says our car is worth. Then they base it off the market. NADA I believe gives a range of price.

take the parts off and sell them seperately... you'll be able to sell the car easier, and you'll end up with more money in your pocket

Take it from someone that tried to sell a modified car. It's extremely difficult. It's a PITA, but selling the mods would be the way to go. If you are determined to sell it as is, then try to advertise it on boards/areas where the modding types frequent.
DO NOT trade it in modded. The dealer will rape you.

FairladyZ traded in his slightly modded Z and they gave him a little more b/c of the mods. They most likely thought the mods would help it sell b/c he had added a screen and a DVD player and had the nismo graphics kit... $1000 over the KBB trade in I believe.

With the current Z market and bad press on 03's...

21-23k is it. 27k is a huge pipe-dream, mods or not. People are seriously scared of mods. At least put the old rims back on, sell those, and eat the cost on the rest. DVD navigation depreciates, like all electronics, 60-70% in a single year, so the initial cost of an over-optioned car is nullified.

It's a tough spot to be in. If you have the time and inclination, take the rest of the stuff off, but the your best bet is the rims.

IMO it depends on the customer. Some people want a modded car, some people don't.

I think you should sell the parts. Hell when I was looking at Supra's and 300ZXTT's I would only look at cars that were stock. Unfortunately, stock Supra owners think that they're selling McLaren F1's or something. I figured for the amount of money they wanted I should just get a new 350Z.
