Default Correct me if i am wrong....

Do you not loose 1hp at the wheel for every 6lbs you add to the car..
reason for that is that i was racing a GT mustang...my brother was in with me in my z and the guy in the GT kept on beating me by a car and we didnt go past 80mph...my brother weights 240lbs and hes like 6"5 and I myself am 215lbs..the guy in the GT was maybe between 180-200 as well...please tell me i lost because of that...and yeah i launched in 3rd gear going a little over 5omph...usually i do that in 2nd...
after that happened last night i couldnt sleep...lol

I dont know if youre wrong or not but Im glad Im not the only one.
I jumped on a Gt mustang the other day, It was a 99 to 2004 model.
Not the new body style so I thought I could take him.
He busted my ***. I thought well maybe I just cant drive but
after hearing this maybe Its not me.
I also got destroyed not once but 2 times by the same srt-4.
It bothered me that the mustang won but i didnt cry myself to sleep over it.
My car is stock other than the nismo cold air. One thing that did happen during the race i had with the gt is my tranny either popped out of third or I missed 3rd all together. I like to have **** when that happened but Ive come to the conclusion Im going to leave racing to someone who knows how to do it and to someone who has a modded 350z. The stock 350z is slow.

I could be wrong but I believe its 1HP for every additonal 6lbs of wheel weight, not weight at the wheel. Moral - buy light wheels?

I would have to tell you it's your driving and if you would've went in to higher speeds of 110+mph your Z will destroy the mustang GT, believe me I've done it numerous occassions. Srt-4, EVO and STI is strong but not strong enough on top end speed unless it has some type of mods like a boost controller.

If you have to wait until you reach 110 to beat the mustang then I fail to see how it was my driving that caused me to get beat.
We was racing from redlight to redlight so there was no way I was ever going to hit 110.
I started to pull up to him at about 85 but then we had to stop and futher more he was still a good 3 cars ahead.
I have little doubt his car wasnt stock, I know he at least had exhaust work done.
Trust me when I say this, You or noone out side of a TTd Z would have run with the Srt-4 I raced with.
I dont care if it was top end, bottom end or mid. That car without question wasnt stock and likely had a stage 2 or 3 upgrade on his car.

SRT-4 can be quick but not fast 2 different words. You have to understand where our powerband is to get full effect of T/Q and HP 4-6K rpm's is where the good power is , you cant get it red light to red light that is for big v-8's and turbo cars. I have not gotten beat by a SRT-4 YET. I have a freind who has a 2004 they are quick but come on it is a neon with turbo.... and believe me it made him mad we raced 7 times 4 from a roll 3 from a dig. He got close from a dig but still couldnt pull me. Have fun drive fast . I have only come up against 2 mustangs that would race. The old style 5.0 are quick off the line beat me once out of 2 rolls 40mph the newer 4.6 cant get one to race me now the newer ones I got beside one on the interstate wouldnt roll but still waiting they look too big but that day will come soon

Maybe it was your launch then man, you need to practice and get your 60ft at least 2.0 or less. You mention sumthing about an after market exhaust that could have been the reason you loss. With those V8's and open up that back pressure I wouldn't be surprise if he gain somewhere around 15-25+ more hp. The stock hp for the mustang gt to the wheels is 260 and torque is around 302ft/lbs . So you have to really be quick out of the hole to even win but on top end speed you will win against that 5spd transmission all day. Good Luck next time!

Sisco,
I understand what you are saying but you are likely racing stock srt-4s with no upgrades. You can say they are just a neon all day long but when you race one that has a stage 2 or 3 turbo you are going to get beat. Its that simple.
If I knew the dude with the srt-4 and you was around here Id love to see you race him. I promise you would be saying its just a neon but i just lost to a neon.
Southern, I know what you mean about the v8s. I totally forgot that they had 260 hp for those years. I was thinking about the days when I had my gt and it had like 220 or so. The exhaust would help him for sure. That makes alot of sesne.
I dont race much so Im sure that I could learn to launch better. Like I said the fact my car missed or came out of gear didnt help it either.

Having just traded in a 2000 Mustang GT Vert on the Z, based on SOTP, I believe the two cars to be close, driving skill has aalot to do with it, especially the launch. Just my $0.02 worth.

I don't know about that equation that you gave, but I don't think its true, because according to that equation you lost 75.83whp, which puts a stock Z way below 200whp... May be you loose 1hp to the wheel for every 60lbs you add... that would mean you lost 7.583 whp, which seems more believeable. But like I said before, I haven't heard of that before, so not sure. However, I have heard that you loose about .1 seconds for every 100lbs.

Anyways, you should've probably been in 2nd gear, and that would've given you the jump on him. The only reason why he got the jump on you, and kept it was because he was in his powerband while you weren't really, and it was a short race, and with the GT being pretty close to the Z in low-end power that gave him the edge. If you would've gone for a little longer, then you would've had him for sure. Btw, you did race a pre-05 mustang gt, right?

If I remember correctly, it has something to do with drivetrain weight... but I can't remember when/where I heard it.

Especially with the stangs it all depends on the year. Seems mustang HP rating changed alot in a span of 8 years or so. I mean, I raced a Ferrari about 3 weeks ago and smoked him in my N/A Z. Oppps, forgot to mention it was an 79-83 model 328 gts. Looked kinda like the one Magnum use to drive. Small liter V8. Nice looking car though. Felt bad for the guy I beat, his wife or girlfirend was with him and im sure she thought her man had one fast ride until the Datsun kicked his azz. haha I posted about this race about 3 weeks ago in the street racing section I think. Any ways, cheers. BEN
