you guys are missing one important thing here - it's C&D doing the poll and they are the only ones I know that one month can say car X rules and the next knock it for everything they raved about it.
Secondly - it's obvious this poll has been spammed by message forums and that's why the WRX is winning. There's several well established WRX sites and a lot more WRX drivers out there. I still contest to this day the WRX is the most overpriced car in the auto industry.

I saw that poll a while ago, but couldn't figure out how to respond. Every car on that list has a great Bang-for-the-Buck (BFB) depending on what you are looking for.
The Z is by far the cheapest true sports car. I think the only close competition is the S2000 for that category.
The WRX has great performance, all wheel drive, and is very utilitarian. For only 23K it is hard to beat that value.
The Mustang Cobra has the best performance of all the cars, but is also more expensive and feels older than some of the others.
The protege is in the low teens for cost, but handles great for what it is: a really inexpensive car that is actually fun to drive.
The neon has great performance, but I'm guessing that the chassis isn't as good as the WRX, nor does it have all wheel drive. But it is also under $20K.
All the cars have great BFB, it just depends on what you are looking for.
I'll still take the Z, thank you very much!

Ermm, not that I condone such behavior, but I've heard that once you vote on the CD site, you then can go to your search file option and put in "caranddriver". This will bring up the two cookies that prevent you from voting more than once. If you delete these cookies...why...then you could go back to CD and vote again. Why, you could probably do this numerous times. Ermm....if you are computer minded, you could even write a script that does this for you over and over and over.
Tsk tsk tsk...people who do this

But see, bang for the buck is such a subjective thing. I wanted to buy the best performing car for the least amount of money HOWEVER I wanted a car that had good style.
I'm not looking to rally race-- and I'm sorry but I don't care if the WRX is slightly less expensive, or if the new Evo is going run a 4.6. Both cars are STUPID looking.
The Z is the whole package-- it looks great and performs great. I also would wager that resale on a Nissan is always going to be better than on a Subaru or Mitsubishi which further makes it a better deal.

Wait, if Dean says his WRX is more fun than a drunken frat party, I may want to pick one up. I've been to a few drunken frat parties in my time and I must say, I didn't think it was possible to have more fun than that!!

I went for a test drive and was offered the car at 27k stock. I just about laughed when the msrp is 23k. WRX is pretty nice car but shouldn't be more then 20k IMO.
Besides at 27k and 26 k for the Z I think it was clear what my choice was going to be.
Do I want a practically real sports car. Or a 4 banger that wants to be a rally car.
When the 350Z was first priced they told us 'Under 30 Grand'. We were all thinking 'Haha yeah probably $29,999'. But when they released the trims and pricing, starting at a very low $26k, I almost flipped out of my chair. I was VERY suprised Nissan would have the ***** to price it that low. For that price you can only dream of a car this good.
Base Z:
287 HP
276 Lb Ft of Torque
ABS Power Assisted Vented Brakes
6 Speed Close Ratio Transmission
Multi-Link Aluminum Suspension
Front/Rear Stabilizer Strut Bars
Carbon Fiber DriveShaft

Personally I thought the same 29,999. So with taxes and extras it will run you 34k but I have my purchase agreement right here and my total is 29,092. For a base. Managed to get a nice car with options I want for under 30K.
