In the past week, I have noticed some posts getting a little more explosive in nature. Whether it is someone getting confrontational with another user, or a signature file being changed to mention another member in a way that could cause problems... I have seen it all. I am sure some of you have as well, because some of you have messaged me asking me to "please not allow this forum to become as screwed up as zcar.com".
Note, I never said Zcar is screwed up, but I think it's no secret that more scraps seem to go untouched over there. That's not the point though, how Vince and Derek run that site is there problem, how this site is run, is mine as well as the other mods.
I would kindly ask you, the members of this site when posting to not attack others or slam others. If you post something short and sweet that someone else might take offense to, think twice. Edit if needed because if someone does take offense and then we have to edit them, and you, it's more hassle than it's worth and we'll start suspending members.
We don't want to be the bad guys, but posting messages filled with swears is uncalled for. One of our Mods recently changed someone's post because he went off with the swear dictionary. We shouldn't have to do this stuff, should we?
Nope, not in the job manual.![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Come on people, many of you have praised the site because it's run with a stricter set of rules than other forums. We don't allow the crap slinging to go on, or the name calling etc. If someone posts something you disagree with, respond in an intelligent manner or not at all.
We have no problem suspending people if needed. We don't want to, but this site will not become like other forums where garbage is permitted so play nice, or deal with the consequences..
Thanks for your time![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Thanks Jeff, we don't want this to become vanilla but a mature discussion and opinion exchange is why I ended up here. You have my support (as if you need it!) to maintain this site with the principles you established when it was begun.

Since Jay's talking about my sig, let me explain a little.
We had a very long discussion about the meaning of "pimp". Seems some were confused about its vernacular meaning. Some couldn't understand it meant "cool" or "sweet", sticking to the dictionary definition of "a man who solicits clients for a prostitute".
So, when I changed my sig to say another member was "definitely, absolutely, NOT a pimp", I was just trying to point out that he didn't manage prostitutes, that's all.
Anyways, it's all in good fun. I don't think two Z fans could actually be mad at one another over something like this. JmanZ's doing a great job managing the site, keep it up Jay!

My apologies to Nizl and all forum members if my posts during the above mentioned thread were out of place.
My efforts to address what I thought could turn into a confrontational thread backfired.
I pretty much ruined the topic of nizl's post. Sorry 'bout that, because it was a good topic for discussion.

Serenidad.... as a new member of our Z community here at my350z.com, I appreciate your input into this topic. At the same time though, you weren't here to see some of the hassles and bad apples we had to deal with in the past. Sometimes, if you don't edit or censor a post, it gets out of hand and next thing you know, you're throwing an entire thread out.
There is nothing wrong with having a differing opinion, and yes, it's welcome at all times but as adults, we should be able to voice our differences without starting flame wars. It's not about making your post "Mr Rogers" safe, if you'd read through this site you'd see we don't do that. The clientelle this forum caters to are generally adults and are expected to behave as adults. I know this isn't too much to ask.
Jokes are jokes and I know that sometimes, a joke can be posted and someone else takes it the wrong way. I am sure many of us have said something throughout life and had it misinterpreted. The key I guess is to try and make sure when one is joking, others are let in on the joke as well.
We will continue to edit/censor a post if needed, my hope is that we don't need to.

I agree completely with the wish to keep it "clean". I've enjoyed using some of the experience and trivia I have gained over too many years to share in this forum. I hope to continue to enjoy it and contribute what I can to its knowledge base. I have learned several things already that make me feel more comfortable with my car choice(I coulda had an M3!). I think the Z will be more fun in the long run and suit us(SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED and me) better than any other choice. The label I have put on her is stolen from a BBC TV program and is in no way denigrating, she's the reason I 'm getting the Z and it is in fun.

I just removed some idiot's post that was in broken english complaining about how I removed him from the site. He registered using bogus information not once, not twice but three different times.
When people sign up in this site, it is written in plain english that an email will be sent to them so they can confirm their email address. I do this for two reasons, one... to stop spamming programs from filling the forum with crap. Secondly, because I want to know who people are that are in here. If someone comes in acting like a jerk, I want to be able to communicate with them that their behavior is unacceptable. (that's fair isn't it?)
When I see a registration with a bogus name/email address, I grow uneasy and usually card the membership. I don't think it's too much to ask that people have real email addresses to post in here.
I think in the future, if problems like this arise more and more, I will simply instruct the script not to accept memberships with yahoo.com or hotmail.com email addresses. After all, those are not our *real* addresses.... they might be the one we use more than anything but each of us has a real address. It's part of being online. I am sure there are one or two exceptions to the rule mind you, so I hope I don't have to put that little law into effect because I am sure it will hamper some people's ability to view the site/forum.
If you currently have a yahoo or hotmail account, you're fine... I won't kick ya out.
don't worry... no reason to. 99.9% of the time, the users of this site are great. The odd time though, there is one person that comes through that the mods or myself have to deal with. Ah well, what's one in 900+ members?

Just like to add a few things to think about...
I think it's important when posting to think about whether your post is directed at someone else's opinion or point, or directed at the person themself. I know it's not a clearcut line where one ends and the other begins, but I think that at least thinking about it will generally lead you towards making your point in a manner that won't be considered derogatory.
Also, if you feel the need to vent at someone in particular, why not PM them? I'm not saying that you can say anything you want there, or advocating flaming PMs to anyone you disagree with. But as nizl pointed out, it would be unusual for any two members in here to stay mad at each other for long, and these things usually blow over pretty quick. Why not have it blow over through a few PMs, as opposed to the forum, where it's much more likely to garner attention from the mods and/or **** off other members.
One more thing about PMs...I think unless you really don't want to deal with them, why not leave them turned on? I totally understand protecting your privacy by hiding your email, but you can always turn your PM back off if you receive any messages you don't need or care to hear. The only reason I bring this up is because on the few occasions I've had to edit a post, I always look to see if I can contact the member first. I'd much rather talk about any potential problems first, and then let the poster make any changes they agree are advised. Or, perhaps they can elaborate to me why they said what they said and convince me that there's no need for action.
P.S. Jay you continue to do an outstanding job in keeping this site the best one around through leading by example. Keep up the good work!![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
P.P.S. I apologize for the long-winded post...I am seeking help in this area. Unfortunately, the first person I solicited advise from was Scafremon...turns out I was asking the wrong guy!

Although I am a charter member, I rarely write; I prefer to just read all the good inputs. When I do write, it is usually to support Jay and the others who keep this site in incredibly good shape.
Having to write many e-mails at work, I have learned how easy it is for people to misunderstand your comments.
Thus, what I do, especially if I have the slightest thought that my words will be misunderstood, is to take a "time out" before "sending" my message. I re-read it, usually edit it. This "time out" has really helped me present my thoughts in a clear manner that others usually find fully acceptable.
Just a suggestion to think about.
Anyways, thanks Jay. With hundreds of posts daily, I am amazed at how well you run this site. I really appreciate it.

IMHO
I think some of the colloquialisms in use today are profoundly offensive. One only has to spend time at a mall or high school here in Los Angeles to hear the vile language, profane references, and horendously insensitive usage of words that belong in the gutter. Much of this seems to be parroted from some of the common "musical" "artists" around.
I think it is disgusting that we as a people have allowed a criminal society to permeate our common culture.
Remember the computer phrase: Garbage In, Garbage Out
