Angry @#$% rock hits hood, penetrates 3M paint protection, & takes chunk out of my hood!!!

I'm TICKED!!

I drive 8 hours north on I-5 from San Diego to Sac on Tuesday night. Afterwards, I inspect the car, and all is well.

Today, I drive 20 minutes on highway 50, get to my buddy's house, and inspect the car. Smack dab in the middle of the hood, in the middle of the 3M paint protection, I see a nick. Upon closer inspection, the paint protection is torn, and the rock or pebble that hit went through and took a chunk out of the hood!! Isn't that typical? I drive 600 miles and nothing, but when i take a 20 mile jaunt, I get all messed up. Now, the pebble or whatever that is responsible couldn't have been much bigger than a pencil eraser, but it went through the paint protection as if it wasn't there!

I know that 3M warrants against this sort of thing, but i'm still pissed because i know that it's going to be a pain in the *** to get this all sorted out. (not to mention that i'll have to drive all the way back up to Torrance to get a new hood piece installed.)

Anyone experience this yet? Krinkov- what's your advice/input? What steps do I need to take?

Sorry to hear about your misfortune.

After nearly 2 years and 14,000 miles, I don't have a single paint chip on the surfaces of my 2002 WRX protected by Stongard (aka 3M Scotchcal).

It sounds like a freak accident or "act of God," if you ask me. The velocity of the impact must have been tremendous to take a chunk off the hood. I suspect the object was sharp or jagged. Can you show pictures?

I doubt that Xpel will cover the body damage, but you might be able to get a replacement 3M film for the hood.

Aloha,

AGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
I feel your pain... Unbelievable. I am so sorry to hear that... But trust me I understand. I know Edre will take care of you. But the drive for you is a *****.
post some photos if you can. I'd like to see where it decided to
jump up and bite your hood. Must have been a significant
piece of debris/rock??? Did you notice when it took place or was this an ugly discovery upon giving it the once over before tucking her in for the night??

I had no idea that anything even touched the car...i just happened to glance at the hood when walking around the front when I noticed it. My friend who i hadn't seen in a year came out of his house after i had parked and stood outside just staring in disbelief...he's a car guy, and knew exactly what happened. I'll get some pics up ASAP, but I feel violated, and it's weird too, but I feel that my baby isn't PURE anymore, if that makes sense. Argh.... It's not as bad as Jill's blemishes...so i don't feel as bad. But still....
