Default Question: Do I need a short shifter?

I recently recieved my Z and am still in the process of learning how to drive manual perfectly. I've always thought the shift was short, however when racing I notice it really isn't that short. The times I notice the biggest problems are when shifting from 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th, I miss gears some times and get stuck in the area between 1st and 3rd and 3rd and 5th. I know some of the problem is driver error but I think I'm trying to shift really fast and the distance is just a little too far for the shifter to travel. Would the short shifter help my problem at all or is it totally driver error??

It's totally driver error.

But if, deep down, you believe a short shifter will help, it probably will !

There is little to no gain in performance (ie acceleration) from trying to shift faster than the gearbox (ie synchros) can go.

It's a good way to blow your tranny...
