Default Why does the Z Base model weigh less?

Perhaps this has been answered before. Why does the Base model weigh less than all the other models:

All the below weights are for manual tranny.
Base: 3,188
Enth: 3,197
Perf: 3,217
Tour: 3,247
Track: 3,225
35th: 3,299

I would expect the track to weigh less with the lightweight rims. 111 lbs lighter than the 35th edition is quite a lot.

But you've got LSD and I've got the 1 wheel wonder.

base doesnt have the following, brembo's, vLSD, vdc/tcs, bose, leather, power seats, dvd nav, big heavy wheels. All of those will add weight.

I thought about the Brembos, but did not expect that it would be that much more. Additional computer for vdc/tcs and navi can't weigh that much. I suppose all the little things add up. I was just suprised, especially on the track model with the lightweight rims, that the Base would weigh less.

the track model 18's probably weigh about the same as the base 17's, especially with wider tires. The brembo's will add a pound or two at each corner and the vLSD probably adds a good 10 lb or more. Not sure what kind of weight the vdc adds. The track model also gets the aero kit which adds a little weight too.

I will say "negative" on the rims. The track rims weigh about 7-10 lbs less than the normal 17s. The LSD and aero kit add some weight. I also expect the side airbags add a substantial amount as well. The Brembo rotors are massive.

Let's not forget cruise control and HID (i know the HIDs don't weigh much, but weight is weight )

Has anyone actually weighed their cars stock? I should have done it, but oh well. I personally think a lot of those figures are off.

3,265 with between a 1/4 and a half tank of gas, and various odds and ends in my storage compartment.

2003 enthusiast is under 3100 with 1/4 thank, no mats, no spare or tools. I think the actual number was 3088 or 308x. This was done on corner scales used for setting up race cars.

the vLSD on it's own weighs at least 20lbs, so I don't know where you're getting this figure. (The reason I say that is that i've got a vLSD in my hand, and I'd equate it to about two of the 10lb. weight plates in the garage).

FWIW

Good point. I did not even think about the seat weight with the motors.

that's why they say, for performance/price, the base is the way to go.
