Default 2005 Z got wrecked ... alignment adjusted

My 2005 350Z got hit a few weeks ago by someone that didn't see me when he made a lane change. Nobody was hurt but my rear quarter panel was demolished.

When the insurance adjuster looked over my car I insisted that he put an alignment on the estimate because the Z was well known for alignment issues. I just got the car back today and asked the [Nissan] body shop guy about the alignment. He told me that it was already in perfect factory spec alignment but they made an adjustment because of a Service Bulletin.

Reed Nissan in Orlando, FL was the dealer I bought from, and also the body shop that I used for the cosmetic repair.

I thought the alignment issue [TSB] was limited to 2003 models ... my post was intended as just a warning to others that the newer models may have some of the same issues with alignment that the older notorious 2003 had. It seems odd to me that a known problem from 2003 still exist in models fresh from the factory.

I was under the mistaken impression that ony 2003 [and possibly early 2004] models had problems with alignment/suspension.

I should have asked what the TSB number was, but chances are they would not of told me anyway.

That it true even 2004's have this TSB mine was done at Reed also a long time ago. There has been some cases of feathering in the 2005's also. Nissan has done nothing to fix this problem but, extend our tire warranty.

If you would like copies of TSB's go here http://www.nissanhelp.com/Bulletins/350Z/Year.htm

Print them out and take them in your hand to the dealership.

Bah, I have the grease streak. Was wondering what that was. I thought maybe it was from water getting into the seal after washing. All these things are taken care of by the dealers right?

Yes, the dealer should take care of it under warranty, but some dealers are notorius for playing dumb about TSB's. I bookmarked the link that maximumsportZ posted and everyone here should. If you have the issue described in the TSB print it out and take it with you.

Be polite, but if the dealer tries to blow you off show them the TSB.

Thanx maximumsportZ.
