Extended Warranty
I was looking to buy a 2003 350z and was wondering if i could still buy an extended warranty if it is still under the standard warranty. If so how much would it cost.
Well I dont want to sound too negative but in my opinion i do not think the warranty is worth the money. I know its still a little bit of a gamble but the only thing it will cover is anything drivetrain and tranny related. yeah i know that if these should happen to go, they are expensive as hell to fix, but in reality, how often do they go?? has to be a small fraction. and yeah if you happen to be part of that small fraction then you are going to wish like hell that you had the warranty, but what usually breaks on this car is not covered.
all you have to do is read the threads here and you can find one major common theme: Nissan missed the boat when it comes to this car and its interior and accesories (ie BOSE radio, seats shifting, and numerous window problems). The warranty does not cover any of this, and these are what fail at a moderate to high percentage of the time. So when that happens to ya, not only are you out the cash you have been paying for the warranty but you are also going to be out of the change you have to spend to fix whatever it is that is not covered.
i just posted about this cause my window motor failed at 41k miles and my warranty did not cover it, so you will have to excuse me if i sound a little ticked off.

GreetZ All,
I figured I'd share my findings with the community. I called up Nissan Consumer Affairs to ask about purchasing extended warranties from out of state dealers. It turns out that it doesn't matter where you buy your Nissan Extended Warranty from (even out of state). Hence you can buy your car in one state and buy your warranty anywhere else. I also called to inquire about the two dealerships that offer extended warranties through the web and they both checked out fine.
http://www.nissanextendedwarranty.com/ also known as Roberson Nissan out of South Jesup, Georgia 31598 (800-773-4874) Ask for "Chad" and tell him that Carlos told you to call him for a warranty on a 350Z.
http://www.nissanautowarranty.com/ also known as Jaremko Nissan out of Spokane WA 99212 (800-821-2448)
Now I've talked to both of these and Roberson Nissan gave me the best deal right off the bat, I called Jaremko Nissan and they are willing to beat the deal....so I'll probably do one last back and forth to drop the price the furthest, I'm guessing that Roberson Nissan will end up winning. You never know, besides I liked the guy from Georgia the most...he seemed more aggresive to towards the sale.
I've got a ticket open with nissan consumer affairs, because the guy from Roberson Nissan claims that I can finance the warranty through Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation (NMAC) at 0% APR for 17 payments with 10% down. Now get this, he claims that no credit check is performed and none of this is reported to the credit agencies. My BS flag slowly started to raise as I found this too hard to beleive and hence I called up Nissan to here it from them. They didn't have an answer for me, so they opened up a ticket and will be getting back to me.
If anybody is interested in reading up on the Nissan Warranties...here it is:

I got my 03 about 3 weeks ago with about 27k miles on it. The powertrain has a 50k warranty and the bumper-bumper is 36k 3 years, so I am almost up on that. They tried to sell me one for something like 2k but I didnt get it.
When I got my car last year I bought the extended warranty, think I paid like 1500 for it...I got it cause of all the tire and alignment issues and transmission issues but so far I havent been back to the dealership since I bought my car.
I have the gold 72month / 75k mile $50 deductibe - paid $725.
It was $100 over invoice and I bought it from a dealership out of state so no sales tax. You can buy it from any Nissan dealership just call a finance guy at some random dealership in the middle of the week when they are not busy; they will be more than happy to sell you one at a good price b/c its an easy sale and they get the commish.

Seems like they can't lose so there is no reason for them report that even run a credit check.
YES THE WARRANTY IS WORTH IT.... i guess it depends on if you are going to turbo your car right away or not....i bought my 03 touring a month ago..... warranty only has 6 months left... i paid 1800 dollars extra for a 100k 7 year warranty bumper to bumper..... just imagine ur tranny going out like it has happened to everyone.....dealer said it was a 3500 dollar job.... my tranny is being replaced right now and i'm picking up the car tonight..... I LOVE WARRANTY WORK...... but hey...if you are turboing or supercharging ur Z right away..... **** the warranty, the dealer will say the turbo or SC voided ur manufacturer warranty.

IT doesn't only cover tranny / drivetrain..... mine is bumper to bumper for 100k miles or 7 years which ever comes first.
Sorry to hear about your window, as the same thing just happened to me, but the extended warranty did cover it. It also covered the wheel bearing issue which was also beyond normal warranty mileage, my rear wiper which went out, and one other thing I can't remember. I initially bought the warranty as it was part of the dealers terms for an MSRP price (back in 02) so I went with it. Definitely got my money's worth. Not saying an extended waranty is right for everyone, but in my case it certainly worked out.

I have been back and forth on this issue as well, the price is a little steep about $2k for a 7 yr/ 120kms $0 deducatable, however i am told by the dealer it isnt exactly bumper-to-bumper like the 3yr/60k one is. After doing some research, it looks like that the canadian one, which i would be getting, there is only 1 option for it, and it does not include:
airbag system, antenna (manual/power), axle boots, bulbs (all), clutch release bearing, clutch lining and cover, complete exhaust system, coolant or oil caps, coolant drain plugs, dust covers, fuses, harnesses, hoses, seat frames, shocks and struts, steering wheel trim and stoppers (steering, suspension).
as well as any interior/exterior trim, squeaks etc. Basically over and above the Powertrain stuff, it's stricly the electrical, although some of that stuff listed isnt in the basic warranty either.
The USA site doesnt specifically list what is not included in any of the 3 levels (gold/silverbronze)

Guys, in my experience extended warranties are not worth it because they almost always blame problems on owner misuse. If your tranny has probs they'll claim you misshifted. And yeah, it's their burden to prove...but by the time you convince them of that you'll have spent a fortune in legal fees. Look how many people have been denied legit claims by NISSAN...it's shocking. Unless you have a very, very, very good dealer (ie Performance Nissan) standing by your extended warranty...it will do very little for you. That's my opinion anyway.

I purchased my 03 touring a couple weeks back with 20100 miles and got an bumper to bumper extended warranty for 5 more years and will take me up to 90k miles. Will be worth it IMO. I have had only one car that had no warranty work done (2000 maxima). On a side note I got my free Potenzas today and the toe in adjusted. No charge and I notice a significant lowering in the sound at low speed braking. I was told that the tire feathering was not bad at all. Probable due to lack of hard driving.
Does the tire feathering affect EVERY Z or a certain percentage?
