I wouldnt be surprised if Nissan released a conservative estimate of 5.5 or so when the car is actually a 5.2 sec or faster car.

If the Z does come in at 300 hp and Nissan says 5.2 0-60, I would bet that if you just put drag radials on the Z it would be sub-5 seconds 0-60. The thing I want to know is the 1/4 mile and more importantly, the trap speed. Those are more of a true measure of a car's power.

The Camaro with the 5.7 does have more torque although the Z does enjoy a weight advantage of 245lbs. (3433 vs 3188) which is pretty significant. The weight of the Z came from an earlier post with HP 287, Torque 274 and 0-60 @ 5.5. Seems about right - the Camaro seems much bigger.

It's even easier to prove sticking with existing Z cars. The 3,600lb 300ZX could pull it in 5.5 seconds with 300hp, a drag-unfriendly anti-squat suspension with lots of wheel hop. The new Z may have 13 less horsepower, but it weights FOUR HUNDRED pounds less, has a much better suspension setup, a close ratio 6-speed tranny, etc etc. You name it, it has it better...and the power difference is more than covered with the 400lbs (you can almost equate that to 35-40hp with the 10/1 conversion).

I already know the final number...but sometimes it takes logic to convince those that don't know. Trust us, it will be very nice

 

trap speed is the speed at the end of the 1/4 mile.

for example the G35 sedan does 0-60 6.2 sec, 1/4 mile 14.7sec @95mph. 95 mph is the trap speed.

1/4 mile and trap speed are more informative to know, but the 0-60 gets all the press. Some cars are very good 0-30 or 0-60 but stink in the 1/4 mile.

J if you can't give us the 0-60 how about the trap speed? just tell us if its more or less than 103 mph. Please

What about auto? R&T clocked the G35 Sedan at 6.2 sec's 0-60 and 14.7 in the quarter w/ 260 hp and 260 ft pds of torque. The Z auto will be 200 lbs(?) lighter and have 20-40 more hp.

I could see the Z AT 5.7-8 secs 0-60 and 14.2-3 secs in the quarter. Figuring parasitic losses w/ the auto at .5 sec, the 6spd could be 5.2-3 0-60 and 13.7-8 in the quarter, maybe. How close am I Zman? Tell us its true and the Z kicks the S2000, Boxster and the Audi TT. Oh, the AT runs 98-99 in the Q and the 6SPD runs 103-104 MPH in the Q!

Give us a sign, oh Zman.

Honestly...you guys already know what the final stats are...or rather you've been told and may not know it. Let's just say that things have slipped through a little more than we thought they would. The thing is, with SO many rumors and such, when the real info came out it was tossed into the pack with the rumors so few noticed.

That being said, I'm sure JMAN knows and a few others here do too....we just can't say (no matter how much you guys beg )

And realistically...it's so minute a difference from what has already been hinted at and calculated that you needn't worry. There's not going to be any real earth shattering information to those that have followed what me, JMAN and some others have given you in the last few months. It's just the honed in numbers and the stats they will stick by. I can say that you wont be disappointed, but don't expect any miracles like 4.8 0-60 either

Can you at least confirm whether the 287 figure was political (i.e. to keep Japanese regulators happy) versus HARD #s?

I must be mad to expect an answer to this.

My final guess is 295HP and 5.2sec. I've seen others who think likewise. Otherwise it's the numbers we already know: 287HP and 5.3. Still not bad for $30K!

 

i personally think it is dumb that you guys cant tell us what the official specs are. Maybe i am in this thought process because i am not aware of the consequences if you do tell us. will Nissan hunt you down and not give you your Z or something? maybe some1 can explain that to me so i can understand.

I know it is only a week away for the info to come, but thats not the point. back like 3-4 months ago, i am sure we all thought it was kind of stupid how nissan wont give us the specs, but now that some of you have them, you are imitating what nissan did.
