B&M short shifter
Hi, Did anyone get the B&M shifter in their Z? I just got 1 a couple of weeks ago and although the shifts are very short and crisp, i've been getting some loud vibration in 3rd and 5th gear over 3500 rpm. I just wanted to confirm if this is something common with the shifter as i'm not sure if this is normal or it my transmission acting up again. and if that is how these shifters operate, are there any recommondations for any other short shifters? I was kinda looking into the Stillen adjustable shifter but i really don't have much info on it.
Any help will be appreciated.
thanks,

Thats Normal so I took mine out and went with Rogue. Its not as short but at least I don't have that annoying vibration noise.
I tried many different thing to get rid of the noise but was unsucessful so that when I decided to go with Rogue.
I am happy with Rogue.

I have a 350evo short shifter, and a very loud rattle, but oddly enough it comes from the stock shifter handle. The new shifter carries a lot of vibration from the transmission which puts out a minor low hum (almost a scraping sound), but there's something loose in the handle itself that yields a very loud and annoying high pitch rattle.
It's not the bushing, because the same thing happens when I leave it off. The sound only goes away when I take off the handle.
It has something to do with the red loktite that was holding the handle on. I'm sure that it has to do with some ridiculous design problem Nissan covered up with that RIDICULOUSLY HARD TO REMOVE kludge.

Thank you guys for your replies. I really have not heard of that rogue shifter, I thought the only 2 available where B&M and Stillen. Did anyone try the Stillen? I heard it was as quite as the stock.

Is that what normally causes the vibration?

My shifter is stock but I reviewed the service manual for adjusting the plate and I can see that the adjustments look significant and expose possibe contact points with the lever that could rattle.

Rogue on the other hand does not have very very short throw like B & M but its definitely shorter than stock. I say 15% to 20%. I think B & M is like 30% shorter throw.
I actually ordered 350evo shifter and the guy at 350evo told me that Evo shifter rattles and its for racing so I returned the evo shifter and they sent me Rogue.

Last February or March I read all the messages on this board about short shifters. Most people had Rogues and, if I remember, every single person was happy with it. I'm sure that's a totally safe way to go.

I've never talked to him, but I've read accounts from people who have. I doubt he said it "rattles." It just transfers noise from the transmission. But it's a very cool-sounding noise. There are parts that might rattle, though:
- the bolt that connects to the arm
- mysterious thing inside the stock handle (my stupid problem, totally Nissan's fault)
- broken teeth on the socket
- the socket itself if there's not enough grease
It's also extremely touchy, so you have to put around 5 lbs of torque on the bolt that connects the other side of the shift lever to the shift arm, and then locktite it on since it's loose. Just a tiny bit of pressure too much, and the shifter is extremely hard to move. Too little pressure, and I think you can get some rattling. It took me 3 tries to get right.
