Unhappy can you believe what my service manager told me!!!

The service manager at METRO nissan in Montclair told me that I am not supposed to take my car to redline that it wasnt meant to do that.

So I told its a faucken sports car what do you mean!!

I took it in because of the grind from 1st to 2nd at redline. So the problem yet again will not be fixed I'm getting a little frustrated. How else are we supposed to reach those 0-60 times nissan advertises if the Z wasn't meant to readline. What a dumbass what am I supposed to do now

Then he told me its normal its supposed to redline. Nissan needs to hire some more intelligent people maybe someone who actually know about cars

You TOLD nissan you were redlining!? Sportscar or not, they will not want to fix it if they think you have been racing.

Take it to a different dealer and dont bring up the fact that you were redlining.

redlining is not racing. The car is designed to withstand 6600 rpms, and the computer won't let you exceed that. Anything up to, and including 6600 rpms is safe.

Have the guy show you in the owners manual or warranty book where shifting at redline will void your warranty.

I know the car can handle it, but from my experience of dealing with dealerships about problems...they will do ANYTHING possible to weasel their way out of fixing their problems. Of course they are going to try to blame it on that as a first resort. You can ask him to show you the manual, but once you **** him off, you probably wont get anything done.

I say go to another dealer and tell them you drive the car for easy weekend cruises or something of that nature. Not testing the limits of the car!

i'm sure that sales manager has a different song and dance about redlining when he's try to sell a z... "yea, she really moves when you get her up to redline..."

five minutes later...

... you bring it into the dealership for a bum tranny to be fixed..."hey hey hey now, these cars were not meant to be redlined buddy..."

that manager is not good, go to a different dealership. good luck.

Speaking of grinding...I read a lot about this issue and yes...a little worried about it. Actually, a lot worried. I don't hear any grinding sounds from my tranny but yes...2nd and 5th gear seems a bit stiff to get into. Sometimes, it feels a bit notchy - but again...no horrifying grinding sounds. Is that something I should worry about? I'm thinking the gears are just a little bit of the correct gates.

Notchiness is normal. You will know grinding if you get it. Notchiness is not a sign of impending grinding... grinding is. Some people have gone 30k miles with no grinding problems, especially if they have autos lol.

Remember, the sqeaky wheel gets the grease man.

Complain to his boss that you are being treated un-fairly. That should fix it.
If they persist, Write the Attorny General in your state..

A Small bit of pressure can work wonders.

No doubt if it was me I would do that just to get even with them and show them they are idiots. BUT then I would bring my car to a different dealer.

funny the dealer would be trying weasel their way out of a problem. who ever does the work (nissan dealer) gets paid for it by nissan. most dealers will jump on the fact of any type service, warranty or not. i'm guessing their shop must be super busy or something. if you do a search you will find a list of many forum members who have had trans replaced. i myself am ready to take it in to have my second trans replaced cause the one they put in will hardly shift into 5th directly after i got it back from them. walk in with a sheet of all the forum members here and see if he is more willing to help. if not go to another dealer.

I tend to agree with this comment
Just like I posted about my brakes on all 4 rotors getting to hot and warpping??
Christ I drove the car for an hour and they warpped, I didnt even get over 100 mile per hour on the road track in my area, just out there for some drive time.

Its a wear item and is not covered... maybe put better **** on the car then...
jeez...

My car hardly ever shifts into 5th gear, and the dealership laughed at me said I was crazy it shifts fine.....

Why cant I ever shift it then?

Dealers still have the brand's financial interests in mind. The #1 basic rule of business is to bring in the most money you can while loosing the least you can. If every dealer did service work with little to no reguard for the company they are dealing for, that company might go belly-up.

The dealer gets paid less by Nissan and more by customers. If they are busy, then its better for them to turn away warranty work in favor of paying customers, or... to try and get customers to pay themselves for warranty work.

Which dealers have you guys had your trannys replaced for the same problem? in SoCal

Do you guys learn to deal with the issue? or keep trying to get it fixed cause I'm about to give up and I don't want to I love my car

Well, here goes nothing.........

A few years back I was having serious problems with my Z31. It was running extremely rough. It was so bad that I couldn't even drive it. Problem was, It wasn't consistant & everytime I took it in they'd say they couldn't duplicate the problem & would send me away.

I had suspected a failing air flow meter and expressed this to the "master mechanic" working on my car. On the 4th attempt to fix it they had my car for over 3 weeks! The mechanic was driving it to & from work every day and still claimed he wasn't able to duplicate the problem. They replaced plugs, wires, 02 sensor & just about anything else they could think of but never once the air flow meter claiming it was fine & they did an adjustment (there isn't one).

So I get the car back. It runs fine for about a week with no problem then one morning on my way to work ....... here we go AGAIN! I literally couldn't get the car above 3k rpm and couldn't get up to freeway speeds. I had made it almost all the way to work (45 miles) before it started acting up so it took me over 1 1/2 hrs to get it back home & straight to the dealership.

Needless to say I was fuming. I walked straight past the service deskto the "Master Mechanic" and said "come & drive my car NOW".

so now this is the 5th trip for a repair. They claim they don't know the problem and again have my car for an extended period. I told them to "keep it until it is fixed and you will provide me with a rental or loaner until it is repaired. Granted I had 5 vehicles at the time & didn't need a rental but I was so pissed I wanted them to pay for something.

Now, the mech drives my car, the service manager drives my car, other mech's drive my car and even Ron Barber who owns the dealership drives my car. All over a period of yet another 4 weeks.

FINALLY they repair the car and guess what it was....Thats right! The air flow meter!!!!

Bottom line: You need to keep hounding the dealership. The same one, over & over until they're so sick of seeing you their they'll finally do something.

You will need to insist they keep the car until they can diagnose the problem. They have to do so at that point. You will need to authorize them to drive it to & from work but you should specify that only the master mechanic is authorized to do so. Talk to him specificallly. If you know you can duplicate the problem then MAKE him go for a ride with you so that he may experience first hand. Basically, be a royal pain in their a$$!!

If they have it longer than a week I would then ask for a loaner or rental. Unless of course you can talk them into 1 at drop off.
