Default AEM anyone?

I think most of us know AEM's bypass filter. Sports Compact mag litterally dumped the filter into a tank of water while NSX was doing 6000rpm and the water didn't reach the engine only because of that bypass valve. Haven't heard of anyone here using one on their Z. Discuss...

It sucks. It is made out of plastic and can be broken easily (I've broken one before). If you are stupid enough to run your car in water that deep for that long you deserve to blow the engine and there is a good chance you will run it in deep enough to get the water over the bypass anyways. It does nothing for going through a puddle or when the filter is not fully submerged. The one that came with my Nismo sits in the garage all by itself cause I refuse to put it on.

so you saying that except for extreme situations, the valve is ineffective? And can you explain how you broke it?

Yes it will do nothing unless the filter is completely submerged and at that point you would still have to be lucky to not have some water sucked in prior to the filter being completely submerged. I broke mine adjusting my intake one day. It is made out of plastic with hose clamps to hold it onto the piping. The plastic doesn't give like a silicone connector does hence snap.

I agree with King Tut, that thing sucks!! Your better of getting a short ram if your too worried about sucking water from your cold air intake. Not only does it break easily, you lose horsepower and sound too (about 1-2hp). If I remember correctly, you can make the AEM a short ram. Just don't connect the bottom piece and attach the filter to the previous pipe above inside the engine bay. Save your $40.00 bucks

what's funny about that sport compact car test was that the tubing was so long it wasn't representative of an actual intake...and aem even discloses that the valve does not gaurantee saftey from hydrolock.
