what oil to use
1st Change - Dealer did it with standard Natural Oil.
2nd Change - I did it, Mobile 1 Extended Performance
Ive hear and there, that the first change should stay with natural oil, then if you want to go synthetic, do it in the 2nd change. Make sure to replace the filter also.

I stuck with the dino oil, 5W-30, as per Nissan's recommendation. I switched to Mobil 1 after the first oil change in another vehicle I own and now have 130K miles on that one with nary a leak. That was per the manufacturer's recommend.
I was tempted to go with the same plan with the Z but after discussing it with the service manager, decided to stick with what Nissan recommends. Just doesn't seem prudent to give them an excuse to deny a warranty claim, even if it is over what oil was used.

i stuck with dino oil til 8k mi. then i switched to Royal Purple (Mobile 1 had too many claims of burning oil quickly). I use 10W 30 since its hot as heck in Texas. Ill switch to 5W 30 during the winter. i use Nissan OEM filter
Went with m1 10w30 @ 1000 miles on my 2003 maxima. Right now it has 40K on it and no problems. So just did the same thing on my 2005 z. (that also includes the gear oil, I use Mobil 1 75-90 for that) Mobil 1 10w30 and Mobil 1 m1-110 oil filter. Every vq35 needs an oil catch can, the blow by is HUGE. That’s why it looks like it burns oil. BTW: when I drained my trany , I could see a lot of metal shavings in the oil and in the plug, so I’m very glad I cleaned it out.

I'm sticking with dino oil in this one, as recommended by Nissan. After being an advocate of synthetic for years I have not been able to find any real difference other than having to pay twice as much. I change my dino stuff out at 3000 anyway...
I just switched over to Amsoil with about 8600miles on the clock. For the record this the first time i've ever used synthetic's. Let me tell you I noticed an immediate improvement in the smoothness of the idle and now I can barely hear the car running when standing a few feet away(from the front) . I just wish I had thought to use my sound(spl) meter to measure the before and after idle loudness.
Yes it's expensive...but from what I've seen so far...it just might be worth it.

Royal Purple for me. Amsoil when I can find it locally. Both of which I feel are excellent oils. But all anybody has now of the Amsoil is the xtended mileage crappy crap. So when I can find the regular Amsoil I stock up.
I use Motul synthetic and Motul 300v for track of course. I heard that the dealer recommended dino oil because they didnt want people running with 5-8K miles with synthetic thinking that it is okay. I dont know what to believe

Since I was needing a new airfilter also...I bought one of their high flow drop-ins which is similar(they claim better) than the K&N's. I bought oil, oil filter, and air filter...hehehe amsoil really racked up on me.
You might want to check there website or even your local phonebook for local vendors. Royal Purple seems much more aggressive in getting it's products into local markets than does Amsoil.
A local tire/repair shop near me advertises Royal Purple as an option when doing oil changes.
Online...I've seen it at Summit Racing or Jegs...I know one of them carries it...maybe both does. I've also seen it on ebay quite often and at pretty good prices if you buy it in bulk(full cases).

Also its refreshing to see oil leave my car like it came in. Amsoil is the best

Thats what they claim, but you still have to replace the oil filter every 10-12K miles with their oil filter...which kinda deafeats the purpose really of a long lasting 25K mile oil cause u gotta go through all that trouble to replace oil filter couple times between oil changes u might as well replace the oil as well.....i wouldnt be too comfortable to leave the oil in that long anyways regardless of what the company claims.
