i've driven both and it all depends on what you want...for everyday/ weekend canyon carving driving...the Z hands down. but if you like to visit willow springs or any other circuit tracks get the s2k....
I have an 03 with no problems. Although I have had one window motor stop on me for a day. Other than that no feathering or tranny problems. However, if you are looking get an 06 first and if you can't afford a new one get an 05.

As I said before, Z looks much sexier than S2K IMO.

My S2K Is pretty Reliable and has never given me any problems other than my battery going out on me. 350Z's looks great and i heard its way way faster than my S2000 because of its V6. Also i heard the handling is better on the 350Z so now im HOOKED! Can anyone tell me the Reliability of the 350Z? Reliability is what im looking for in a car. I tried to search but i couldnt find anything about it.
1. Looks. Z wins easily. Modern, beefy, cutting edge design. S2000, thought nice looks like a bit of an econobox sitting next to the Z.
2. Handling. S2000 wins in stock form, but with a simple wheel/tire upgrade and sway bar upgrade, the Z will outhandle a stock S2000. There is also little to be gained in handling on an S2000 with a wheel/tire upgrade, and this speaks well for how well the car is set up in stock form. The '06 track and grand Touring Z will have substantially beefier wheels and tires from the factory, and so you may not even need to do anything. The Z is heavier and feels heavier, but is in no way sluggish, but it does not have the razor sharp reflexes of the S.
3. Shifter. Very different and is personal preference. Both have short throws, but the S is clearly smoother. The Z has a beefier **** and is more "mechanical" in its feel. I like it better than the s, but many will disagreee with this.
4. Power. Very different delivery as you probably know. The Z is all about torque and instant throttle response. It is fun at any speed. S engine is much smoother, however, and loves to rev in a way that no other engine on ANY CAR does. By the numbers, the car have similar acceleration times in the hands of expert drivers, but in the hands of less than expert drivers, the performance is much more accessible in the Z.
5. Other. The Z is more of a real car and has more comforts and solidity. if you are looking at the Z roadster in comparison to the S2000, it is a MUCH nicer cruiser on long trips. Great wind noise management.
Drive both cars back to back, then decide. Remember, however, that you are USED TO THE S, so the Z may feel foreign to you at first and this may bias you against it. Wait a few days, the drive the Z again and see if you like it any better. I had three test drives in the Z and two in the S before I picked my Z.

I drove both the Z and the S2000 and noted the S2000 was very cramped and not that fast without revving the h,,,,, out of th engine. If your going to drive all day at Nuremburg (or whatever track was alluded to) fine you might want the S2000. For everyday driving on streets, freeways, long trips, the Z hands down.
I have an 03 z....my dealer has honda and nissan.....i sold my sl600 cuz it was getting oil leaks....and had 100 k on it...i decided to check out the s2000......it reminded me so much of the spiders from the 60s.....tite small and sharp.......but after looking at it for 3 months.....there was just something about it that turned me off......in the dealership showroom it looked great....but when i saw them on the street they looked like mice.........i didnt even know wat a z was at the time....well after leaving the showroom i walked across the parking lot with the salesman and i spotted the z next door......i sed......let me test drive this now.......in 5 minutes i sed 'GET ME A BLACK ONE......touring it was...........so...looking back....after putting twin borla cat backs and chromed g35 sc wheels on it.....im sorry it didnt get the mmm clear bra........and after 9 k miles...my clutch went.....im 66 years old and it wasnt me wat wore the clutch out....so i spent 1000 for an after market clutch and fly wheel.....the dealership wouldnt give me the time of day for warranty.....i know now that if i screamed loud enuff i would have gotten satisfaction....oh well.....then my door motor gave me intermitent operation ....but no problem with the dealer on that one........otherwise........no problems with tires or anything else so far......dont drive in the winter....i use my jimmy...but what i really enjoy is the the continued looks from car admireres.......its black and of course kept shiny all the time....what else is there to do eh...lolol.....if i see 1 or 2 z.s a week im lucky....this is detroit......not many around........i sure miss the feel of the 12 cyclinder 600 tho.....lol........my next z i think i get an auto and up the rear end ratio ......and maybe they mite have factory turbos by then...who knows eh.......when i was young poor and happy......in the late 60.s and early 70.s i drove a NRHA super stock mustang.....68 428 cobra jet ....auto.....held a NHRA et record in 70 and 71.....ahhhh...those were the days......started drag racing in 64 with a new 64 mustang....$2100 brand new......hehehe......then a 66 390 gta fairlane.....then the 68 428 cobra jet....then the last one....a 67 427medium riser Ford Fairlane factory race car.......my very first car....a 51 ford.........my dad bot it for me...my crash car...lolol...and of course other things that teen agers do...eh.....sigh

I just test drove my friend's 03 350Z. I got to admit it is a totally diffrent car.
Performance: The 350Z felt more powerful when u mash the pedal. COmpared to the S2K, you definetly feel the torque in the 350Z.
Handling: The Z felt pretty heavy turning in corners like i try to do with my S2K. The rear end almost came around but i controlled it. Handling isnt bad on this car though, but it did feel the 350Z was heavier.
Shifter/Clutch: The 350Z's clutch was diffrent than my S2000. Some how when the clutch pressed and released, it felt like the clutch was coming up slow like it was hydrualics. Felt like it was stuck for a split second to the floor. S2000 Clutch comes up right away. Shifter wasnt as smooth as the S2000, it felt kind if stiff and i had to carefully click it into gear. Maybee im not used to the Z yet but I feel that the S2000 Shifts alot faster.
Interior: I like the 350Z interior, its more entertaining than my S2000. I like the battery, oil, Mpg and tire pressure gauges. I like the little compartments and the rear speakers of the 350Z. One thing i didnt like was the feel of the Z interior. My S2000 feels alot better but looks boring. ONly thing i like about the S2000 interior is when the 9K RPM flashes.
Conclusion: Im going to just keep my S2000. Although the 350Z is a Badd *** car, its just not worth Trading Hassel. If i had to do everything over again i might get the 350Z.
P.S. The S2000 fits me like a glove. I feel like im in a f1 Race car and it holds me in my seat perfectly snug while hard cornering. The 350Z was alot roomier and i felt like i would be tossed around in the car if i turned like i do in my S2000. For a daily driver the 350Z is better. Track Racing, S2000 is just Fun.
