They are the same engine. The 287 is the 03-05 (except for anniversary editions) engine. And the 300 horse is the slightly more tuned, higher revving engine in the 06's.

J/K Its just easier to start STi/350Z flames than it is to light a match around gas. I like the STi AWD - TURBO - BIG HP - Its just not particularily attractive. It has that race me quality to it looks but that just doesn't cut it on the streets anyone over 19 does look twice.

I've wondered this same thing...I can always hear my boyfriends G when he pulls up, but if he's driving the Z I never hear it pull up. Hmm...

I've noticed the difference in exhaust note between the G and Z too. I just put test pipes on my Z so it's much louder now, haha. It's a little raspy for my taste but not so much that I'm gonna take them off.

I think a good combo would be .... Helix Test Pipes, Group-S " Y " Pipe, Remove the OEM Resonator, and a Nismo or w/e CAi ....thats a " bang for your buck " set-up that will be pretty loud also the most important would be more whp as well ....Also wut size is the OEM 350z piping because can u mate an aftermarket " y " pipe to the OEM Mid Pipe?...

I work on a very busy street. On a number of occasions when walking to the bank or lunch, I've seen and heard both 350Z's and G35's pass by. Both have a very similar and distinctive sound. I wouldn't say that the G is any louder than the Z though. Maybe on some particular cars that might be the case. My Z has a NISMO exhaust that is definitely louder than stock. Perhaps STIboy heard a G with an aftermarket exhaust.

I got an enthusiast, and got a two tone aftermarket leather. I did not see the necesity of getting a more expensive one, I just wanted one that had LSD, TCS, HID's, and leather (after market).

And yes all MT 2006 models come with the 300 hp engine, but they have about the same acceleration as the 287 hp engine since they are also a little bit less torquier.

check www.nissanusa.com, you can see the difference between the models, I think touring has that plus VDS...
