Default 20 of 25 lug nuts loose

I had my 45k service today (includes balance and alignment). When i was on the highway driving home i thought that if felt a little rought, especially since i just had and alignment. When i pulled into a parking lot and slowed down i heard a "rubbing/grinding" noise. 2 of the lug nuts on the front left wheel were loose enough to screw off without a tire iron. Every other lug nut except for the ones on the front right wheel were able to be turned at least one full turn. I brought it back to the dealership and am meeting with a service manager on monday

That's crazy! Sounds like the tech put the wheels/lugs hand tight, and then forgot to put the air wrench to them. Make sure the lug hole's on your rims haven't been damaged and that your studs are still in good shape....

i bought my car from a dealership and it only has 4 lug nuts on each wheel instead of 5, meaning each wheel is missing one, is that bad?

I was on my way home from getting my oil changed form the Fremont dealership and heard a rubbing sound when i was going very slowly. I got out and checked all the tires and wheel wells, nothing rubbing there. Looked under the car and found that they didnt put the back bolts on the rear side of the plastic engine cover!!!! So i was dragging the damn plastic cover for miles and miles... They took care of it no problem and didnt hassle me at all, but damn that coulda been disastrous.

Anytime the rims come-off (whether getting new tires, service, or racing-for those who have seperate rims/tires), you should re-torque the wheel nuts after XX amount of miles.

Of course, its still possible the technician MIGHT have forgotten to tighten the wheel nuts.

Assasination plots abound. Someone once took off the nuts on my axle bolts on a motorcycle. I noticed it purely by acccident.

damn, I would comlain with every manager there is... may be it was just a mistakes, but in my opinon those mistakes should never happen. Good thing nothing happened but what if it werent like that, what if one of the wheels would've came off.

I dunno I would be so pissed off, I would probably tell them to give me some kind of compenstation, free maintainance for a while, free tires or something.

+1
Not unusual. Dissimilar metals (lug nuts and wheels) expand and contract at different rates. And wheels experience tremendous vibrations. Torque the lug nuts once each month to the correct tolerances.

rockinbboy i am in SC now not MD, but i went to northside nissan down here. In md i always went to sheehy in annapolis, i hated their sales department but was really happy with service (never had a problem wiht getting tsb s fixed or anything).

As far as the lug nuts coming lose it obviously wasnt due to vibration/ expansion because the passenger front wheel lug nuts were all really tight.

This is why I NEVER let the dealer work on my car... hi-end tire shops are a million times better.
