Well I gotta give my insurance company (Allstate) credit. The car was totalled without an arguement and they came up with a *creative* solution to getting me the most money for it (while keeping their out of pocket as low). They also had an excellent value for the car.
For the record, it was a 2003 Performance, purchased new by me in July 2003 with 19000 on the clock. They had it valued at 23,000 or to help them, I could take a check for $16,000 from them and $7,500 from a salveage/body shop for what's left of the car. In the end I wind up with $23,500 for a car I paid a little over 30,000 for 2.25 years ago.
At least in my case, you are in good hands with Allstate.
Now it's time to go shopping!

I'm heavily leaning towards an '06. I just love the car. There's still nothing in my mind that has the looks and performance at the price of the Z. They've also addressed most of my gripes with my '03, ableit minor. Better brakes, radio controls on the steering wheel, drastically upgraded interior, better suspension, latest revision of transmission with far fewer problems than the '03's. The EVO and STi will keep up with it but they strike me as kids cars. Other cars I'm considering:
2004 Audi S4 - too many doors,
2002 745i - wife likes this and I like the gadgets, not serious
2006 G35C - Most of what I love in the Z is missing (loud, rough) but does have the luxury. 8K more expensive. Probably the most serious contendor
2003 M3 - I can't afford the 2K/year engine rebuilds
2001/2002 M5 - 3rd on the list
2003 FX35 - Good if the family expands soon.
2006 S2000 - I'm 6'4 and look at the top of the windshield
2006 RX8 - Unique, but not my taste and questionable durability.

I am glad to see that it's all working out. I looked at a '06 last week. I do like the changes except the notch in the front lower air dam. That should have been left alone.
Nothing a CF lip or I can't fix.

Yeah, I will be in the VERY small minority here I think, but I really dislike the new headlights. I find the globe too large and all the little bumps on it seem to make them too busy. Maybe I'll swap them!

Whelp, all the dust has settled (actually it settled some time ago) and I've picked my new car. I have strayed a bit, but not too far. I'm going up to pick up a new Laser Red G35C 6MT this coming Tuesday. Love the Z, had no qualms with it, but will probably need a back seat in a couple years and don't want to have to change cars.
Oh, for thos who are interested, I ended up getting $23,500 for my 2003 (bought new by me in July' 03) Performance with 19,500 miles. The cars hold their value pretty damn well.

Oops, little miscommunication. They were the RE040's but they were not the original tires. The rear's were only 4K old and the fronts were about 8K miles old. It was the fact that the road was laden with road grime that had been brought to the surface with the mist we'd had that morning. I probably hit a moister patch due to the non-uniform shading of the road. Just unfortunate really.

Hell, I wasn't even going that fast. I've taken that road in the rain MUCH faster than I was going. We'd had 7 weeks of 0 rain. The mist brought all the road grime that normally washes away right to the surface. Kind of like hitting an oil slick in the middle of the corner. Pretty much just bad luck. I wasn't even sighted by the police.
