Insurance Help

Recently the stock 17 inch wheels and tires were stolen of my 05 Base Z. This was the third time I have been a victim of theft from the same apartment complex. I was informed by a local police officer that the area I live in is a hot spot for theft and vandalism. Naturally, I figured this would be a good time for me to puchase new rims. But due to my financial situation I opted to contact my Insurance for help. Of course to replace my factory wheels I had to go to a local Nissan dealership. And of no surprise they were VERY over priced. The total with tires was nearly 4k. To make a long story short I have provided everything my insurance had requested a police report, formal quote from a dealerhsip with company letterhead and address for wheels, and the same from Discount Tires. Shortly after I was informed I will be receiving a check in the mail for that total minus my deductable. And that I will have to take it to my Broker so that they can take a picture to match the picture I sent them with the condition of my car before the wheels were stolen. I'm sure they will also ask for proof of purhcase. My question is do I have to purchase these wheels or can I use the money to purchase wheels of my desire. Any experiences or legal knowledge would be much appreciated.

Yea if they give you $4000 - $500 deductable = $3500 and then you spend $3000 on a new set of rims and tires yuo can keep that extra $500. However you then should take a picture of your new wheels and if they get stolen again they will only give you $3000.
You could also pick up a set of oem 17 for like $500 (used) and keep the $3000 to get some nice NA mods

I work for allstate and our adjusters could care less what you do with the cash. the purpose of ins. is to put you back where you were. meaning if you own a $10k car there gonna give you what its worth and not a penny more. so do as u please with the money and remember if you keep putting in claims against your ins. there gonna do one of two things, either drop your ins. and not insure you any more, or raise your premium. If you have any more questions about ins. write me back. Good luck
I would highly recomend locking lugs, if you haven't before. if so, run two sets, i had a set of locks and a set of spline drive lugs nuts on my integra. it was a pita taking off wheels bc of the two different lug keys, but that means it is one more thing for thieves to mess with. the extra 5 minutes was worth keeping my wheels. also, if you can afford to move, maybe you should. i wouldn't put any aftermarket rims on my car until i was sure the insurance would cover them. it doesn't sound like your apt is very safe. if your car has been hit 3 times and the police know your apt complex isn't safe sounds like an inside job.........either someone in the place is doing it, or have "friends" that he tips them off.
Thanks for the info everyone. Yes, I'm am moving out at the end of this month. I was also planning to get another wheel lock because the Nissan issued one is easily accessible. I'll keep everyone posted on how things workout in the end. I have a feeling they're going to push me to spend the money on the factory whees. But we'll see.
