350Z Convertible vs. an M3 Convertible would better...?
I've seen stock M3's get low 13's all day long at the track. NO 350Z's do that... stock anyway

right but how often do any of us get to the track !! and end up next to an m3 trying to race!!! not that often...i do runs thru canyons, but the people that have m3's arent willing to run twisties with them.... and half the ppl if given the opportunity would not know how to push their cars on the track !!! some seem to have problems learning how to make their car go fast in a straight line !! haha

I just got rid of my 02 m3 vert. and in terms of acceleration and powerban there is no comparison.

Powerband

M3 3500-8250 4750rpm powerband Stock rwhp 270-280+
350z 3500-6800 3300rpm powerband Stock rwhp 230-240

You can also just chip a stock m3 and it redlines a 8500-8800 rpms.

I raced alot of Z's even with the top down and Always walked away from them. Having said that is am still very happy with the Z. For what it is it performs VERY well.

why the hell is this thread 4 pages?...the m3 is obviously faster, which is why it costs a lot more...4.8 vs 5.4 0-60 ...it's no contest at all

It's a totally different level of car. The M3 is a driver's car for sure. I know that with the new M3's they will send you to Germany to pickup your car from the factory and take it to the track for test driving. You also get to kit the Autobahn. Then they ship the car stateside for you. They getting that package with the Z.

Why would I come on here and lie. I never said the M3 was in 3rd gear now did I? No I think not. All I said was I only downshifted to 5th and was right there with him, was he in 5th? I dont know what gear he was in. I simply said had I gone to 4th instead I would have pulled away from him in the beginning.

M3 > Z

However, on Top Gear's track the Z and M3 got the same exact lap time. It is no secret that the M3 is faster in a straight line.

Since M3 is the race shop version of the 3-series... A better comparo would be between the M3 and the Nismo R-Tune Z. In which case, I would put my money on the R-Tune Z around a track, on the street, and on the highway.

For that much money the Z can also have the little horse emblems all over the car as well.

why do you even have to ask your comparing a mere 300hp to 330hp, M3 anyday of the week, and for you guys that had a choice between 350 over M3, your stupid as heck for choosing the Z, not comparing the prices.

The Z will kill a 330i even with the performance package for the record. also a m3 not driven by a novice shifter will kill a stock any trim z.

If I recall all the r-tune mods got the Z maybe 20 rwhp extra. The m3 should still beat it straight up. But track wise may have the edge but really thats not fair because you are practically modding the z at that point for track purposes the m3 wasnt designed to do so it just is good at it. It's a standard model sold by the company a r-tune is not.

depends. it really depends. i used to be married to german cars and swore by
them... i've gone through two bimmers and a porsche before buying my 05 Z.
and honestly i would choose a Z over an M3 anyday. simply b/c if I spend $60K
on a porsche or bimmer, it better perform like there is no tomorrow.

Bmw and Porsche benefit from having their cars priced higher. They can add
more equipment and do far more research. But when you have a car like a Z
priced nearly $20-25K less keeping up in performance that's remarkable IMO.

at the end of the day it's about doing duty on the road or track. whatever is
capable and up to the challenge is worth the time IMO. think about it... who
gets more respect at the track pulling the same times... the guy in $60K+ m3
or the guy in the $30K+ Z with modest mods? i would think the Z.

i would agree but the 330 has come a long way over the years. i also like how
bmw passes down M-technology to the rest of the 3 series lineup after it has
been on the M3 for a while. i would like to see how the new 330 stacks up w/
the new 06 IS300 which i believe is in its class. problem here is that pushing
the 330 power up too much pushes into the M3 market. so interested in how
bmw will respond to the IS's new 306hp output and 0-60 touted at 5.3
