The new WRX's are getting the 2.5 turbo engines, so they may put up more of a fight.

Honestly I'm not sure. I thought they were getting a bump.

Ninja Edit - They got bumped 3hp to 230.

they get to peak power sooner though since they've got the 2.5l motor now. it's probably a bit faster, but still not something to be really worried about vs. a Z.

A stock 350z will beat a stock 04 any day. A stock 350z dyno out to around 210-220whp on our dyno and stock 04 WRX is around 170-180ish.

Talking

I just finished completing a 4 week high-tech racing school and I was told that the car that finishes the race first is usually the winner.

So, if my instructors were right, if the Z crosses the finish line ahead of the WRX, the Z is the winner and if the WRX crosses the finish line before the Z, the WRX is the winner.

I hope this helps you guys........

I hope you are kidding. STi (in speed) will rock any 350Z stock.

From a dig it will be murder.

From a roll it will be far closer however.

Pastapuck: Give the keys to a stock Z to Alberto, lined up with a stock STI. I beg to differ.

Even a WRX will take any Z off the line. It will lose in a long term race due to the difference in power between the WRX and Z, however due to the fact that it is AWD it gives it a significant advantage from a dig. The STi however has quite a bit more power than the WRX (in addition to a 6 speed manual gearbox) which will give it a tremendous lead.

Don't go by my words though.
2005 Subaru WRX STi 4.8, 13.2 (0-60/quarter mile)

Some times for the Z I found:

2004 Nissan 350z Roadster 5.7 14.3
2003 Nissan 350z 5.4 14.1

This is not a matter of being a fanboy or not. Wheather you like it or not (or you are willing to admit it) a stock STi with a halfway decent driver will beat a 350Z.

Yeah, but because ofAWD, it will also loose a lot of hp due to distribution to all the wheels. And the numbers below indicate the faster times for the sti and the slowest times for the z. But, in a 1/4 mile race, the sti is a little faster.

Santacruzslick: I agree. We are talking about speed, not glamour and looks. 350Z hands down for those.

I realize it will lose power due to AWD, however I am confident the STi will beat (or at least tie) a 350Z from a 20 roll. However you look at it, I have never seen the 350Z get a quicker time than an STi - it is inconceivable from a dig - impossible (unless the person driving the STi is mildly retarded and not familiar with how to change gears).

Looks: Z
Performance: STi

pastapuck - you are right that the sti will rock the z from a dig, and the 0-60 and 1/4 times are faster, but when you compare the trap speeds which are very close you can tell the Z has a very good chance once rolling.
