Maybe it is a dealer installed car phone, before the bluetooth Gs. I think bluetooth is just now on the 06 G. so there was probably some way to have a clunky old car phone installed maybe?

Why don't you follow the wires to find where they end up at.

I attached a picture of one I found on e-bay. You can see the center direct hard wire unit, it's a small black unit with a red and black wire. The Valentine 1 uses phone cord wire to supply positive and ground to the unit. So I'm guessing when the guy sold the car to you, he pulled out the phone cord and the radar detector and left the hard wiring.

I think it's a great radar deterctor. I had the escort with the laser shifters. The escors is a good radar detector but in my opinion isn't as sensistive and doesn't pick up police radar as quickly as a valentine one radar does. I had the escort in my old corvette and it just didn't give me enought notice when there was a cop up ahead, but the valentine gives you enought notice, it might be a bit too sensitive, but I'd rather it be, besides, you already have all the wiring installed.

The escort uses the same wiring setup, the only bad thing is that unless you have the laser shifter setup, my 8500 was pointless. It would go off with the cops driving around but those aren't the ones that worry me, its the speed traps, and they always use laser. It really doesn't matter with laser what detector you have because 9 out of 10 times it won't go off until you get shot then its too late... If you're going to speed just speed smart, just paying attention to possible speed trap locations and traffic patterns ahead of you is a much better solution, and completly free...
