Is there a way to tell if my car is 2004 or 2004.5?

Your production date is 04/04, which should make it a 2004.5

Yes the car has the shoulder extensions on both sides, knee pads, and I made a mistake! The manu date on the door sill shows 04/04 not 02/04. Its looking like its a 04.5

10/03 is the first of the 04.5's at least for the G35's it's that way -- mine is.

I originally found the official distinction between the two on the nissan-tech.com site. You can tell in the VIN numbers:

2004 Nissan 350Z Coupe/Roadster (Coupe VINs up to D*4T160000,E*4T060000) (Roadster VINs from D*4T102001 to D*4T110000 & from A*4T002001 to A*4T010000)

2004.5 Nissan 350Z Coupe/Roadster (Coupe VINs from D*4T160001, E*4T060001) ( Roadster VINs from D*4T110001, A*4T010001)

I could be totally wrong but I thought that all 350z's prior to '04.5 were built at the Oppama plant and the 2004.5's were built at the tochigi plant. If so just check your vin. If the 11th digit of your vin is T (Oppama plant) it's an '04 if it's M (Tochigi plant) it's an '04.5.

So, if I am understanding this, a roadster, with a vin ending with A04T005525 would be a 2004.5? As as a follow on question, as a 2004.5 it's less likely to have feathering / tranny issues, correct?

Thanks for the help.

No, the serial numbers on the 2004.5 Roadster start at 110001 or 010001 and go up (actually, use the last 5 digits so it's 10001 or higher).

The 2004 Roadsters are between 102001 and 110000 or between 002001 and 010000 (again, last 5 digits 02001 to 10000).

I have a 2004.5 and it had feathering. It did appear that there were less complaints about the 2004.5 models than the 2003/2004's but there was no guarantee just by having a 2004.5 that you wouldn't see feathering.

does anyone definately have a 2004 model? one without the knee pad and etc...??? the 10th digit of the VIN wil give you your year number, 4=2004, 3=2003, etc...but, again, does anyone have a 2004.0 model?

I have a 2004.5 and it was built at Oppama. If I remember correctly, the switchover occurred around the first of the calendar year but the production of the 2004.5's had started in Nov or Dec.

Like I said, I could be wrong. My bad. I do know the switch to Tochigi happend in Jan. Just wasn't too sure when the '04.5's were manufactured.
