What exactly to do in a minor fender bender.
Seeing all these posts about accidents, hit and runs etc.. And also having not been in an accident for over 10 years, what is the current SOP for a minor fender bender? What documents, do u call 911 or non emergency num, keep involved cars where they are? etc etc. Oh Btw Im in Vegas.
Got this from a search on google http://www.autotrader.com/research/s...o&restype=used
Anyother tips or must do or donts that should be followed? Any police officers here?

Well, in so cal especially L.A. if no one is injured the cops and chp could careless. They just tell you to to exchange info and contact your respective insurance co's.
I was in a small fender bender this past summer. Always a good idea to have digital camera around to snap photos of the damages to your car and the other person's car. If at all possible where the vehicles were involved in the accident and then move cars over to the medium. It probably will not matter. Because your insurance co will tell you to take your vehicle to an authorized body shop for an estimate anyways, but it always helps to have those photos, just in case the other guy tries to claim some type of fraud, i.e. more damage that occurred due to the accident. I would also make sure the license plate shows up well in the photos and if you get a chance, write down and compare the VIN on his vehicle to the VIN on his insurance card and registration. Also, make sure to take several photos of the other party involved, the people themselves, walking around, on cell phones, etc. The only reason I say this is because there is so much fraud in L.A. for fake injuries etc. and it always helps to show that the other party is live and well and walking around if the next week they show up wearing a bodycast. Reminds me of that Brady Bunch episode where Carol Brady and some guy at the shopping center parking lot rear end each other.

Only call 911 if someone is hurt...
Only call the police station is the damage is substancial...
Exchange names, phone number, insurance info, VIN number,
Goodluck I hope I wont have any accidents for a very long time

If the damage isn't too bad there is no need to get the law involved, that is what insurance is for. If the damage is really bad then you are required the pull the other motorist from their vehicle and execute them at close range with a firearm. If the second step is followed closely enough there will be no need to call the cops, they should come on their own. When they ask what happened you can tell them that the other motorist wanted you to kill him. If they need proof just point to the damage on your car.
Location determines what the requirement is for the police to write a report. Some places it is estimated damage. Where I work if the car is impounded by the police due to being undriveable or someone is transported by an ambulance, there will be a police report. If it is a hit and run there will be a report. If you have a minor fender bender and no one is hurt, you will be waiting at the bottom of the list for an officer to tell you to have a nice day. Exchange full driver's license (name address etc.), vehicle, and insurance info and give/get a phone number. That is all you are required to do by law.
On a related note, if you hit an unattended vehicle you are required by law to leave your info. Very few people do this and its bs.

it is better to call the police when in doubt. the idea here is that the police will
document the facts. the last thing you want is for the other party to suddenly
get "amnesia" and say it's your fault or simply lie.
also suggest not moving the vehicles until the police arrive unless they pose an
immediate threat to others.
i also always work it through insurance. even when my fault and the other car
driver suggests working outside of the insurance company. i believe some may
even penalize you if they find you are involved in an accident and don't report
it. just not worth it in my opinion.

The last minor ding that I had, I called non-emergency. Within 5 minutes, TWO cop cars arrived. After taking a report, I asked the cop about the quick reaction and two cars. He mentioned a two car Baltimore County policy because of “road rage:” a fender scratch and someone goes berserk!
