hey guys....

i just noticed last night that my rear hatch doesnt stay up. i was getting something and the rear hatch just fell on my head! it doesnt stay up.....not at all! it was around low 40's here in PA. i'm thinking the cold temps might be a cause of this?! has anyone had this problem? i have an aftermarket spoiler and havent had a problem with my rear hatch not staying up. i've had my spoiler for a few months now. not planning on upgrading my rear hatch shocks for 230 bucks....any ideas guys? do you think it's a coicidence that they are just bad? if they are bad....i hope the dealer will replace under warranty (that is if they dont blame my rear spoiler).....

 

Mine did this the other day as well. I guess the oil they use is not tempered for cold weather. I don't think they have gone bad though.

It's the physics of the gas shocks themselves, not them going bad. During hot temperatures, the gas inside the shock expands, thus sometimes your hatch might "open itself" during the summer. During the winter the opposite effect happens, the shocks compress and thus might land on your hand when you try opening your trunk.

 

Yeah, the same thing happens to me in the cold weather. The dealer is replacing the rods for me under warranty.

yeah, I got nailed on the head yesterday too!

 

I was having that problem too the other day. I found if you push it open all the way it would sometimes hold.

 

haha I just posted about this yesterday as a warning to people. The hatch fell down and the latch slammed right into the top of my head. It freakin hurt!!

 

You can assist your struts a little by removing the counter weight from the inside of the hatch lid. It's under the interior panel and it was a couple of pounds. Might be enough to overcome the cold.

 

does it lanhd slowly on ur head, or is it straight ownage

 

straight ownage.......and i removed the weight already too.....

 

Mine did the same thing... I had nissan replace the struts with bigger ones...they said the smaller ones could not handle the weight of the aftermarket spoiler.

 

really?! and nissan covered it under warranty even with your aftermarket spoiler?!?

 

I bought it from nissan with the Kaminari kit already on it... so yes they covered it
