Driver Killed After Plunging Over Pali

Police suspect a driver was drinking and racing before he plunged off the Pali Highway to his death.

The crash happened just after the second tunnel around 1:30 this morning. Special equipment was needed to pull the wreckage out of a ravine.

The medical examiner's office identified the victim as 35-year-old Terrence Lee of Kailua. Police say he appeared to be racing with another vehicle, but the other driver apparently fled the scene after the crash.

A crumpled sports car covered with mud and plants are the remnants of a wild ride that turned deadly. Inside, KGMB9 spotted at least three bottles of beer.

Police say the 35-year-old driver was seen racing another vehicle on the Pali Highway heading toward Kailua. Just after the second tunnel, a witness saw the man slam into a concrete barrier on the right side of the road. The car flew over the embankment and landed in a ravine 40 feet below.

The man did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt. He was found dead outside of his car. The victim had a fractured skull and other internal injuries according to police.

Officers closed all Kailua-bound lanes for about eight hours while they investigated and removed the wreckage. Results of Lee's toxicology tests could take six to eight weeks.

This is the 77th traffic fatality so far this year compared to 69 last year.

1. No Seat Belt
2. DUI
3. Street Racing

It's already a big risk to do ONE of these let alone all of them . Be safe everyone...

That's what I mean. For you to do all of that is really irresponsible since doing just one is pretty bad already. And I agree that for someone 35, you would've expected him to know better.

Yes... I know.

Read this again; "The man did not appear to be wearing a seatbelt. He was found dead outside of his car. The victim had a fractured skull and other internal injuries according to police."

My point kinda was that it wouldn't have made a difference, seat beat or NOT but, the media always makes it a point to let us know. As if driving off a freaking cliff with the seat bellt on would have helped anything... But thanks for making my point for me for all the slow people in the house.

I don't care whether they are 16 or 40, I would'nt call the 16 year old a dumbass
kid or the 40 year old a disappointment. This is a tragedy...

Yeah im still not over the envy of 16 year olds driving Zs
Pardon my bias lol...
JUst because I didnt drive a 30k sports coupe/vert 4 years ago ...
hahahahaha
Tragedy eh?
Tragedy : an event resulting in great loss and misfortune
Well I cant really be more honest to God, but DUI, Street racing and not being responsible... Is that misfortune or predicted? I am not a supporter of either Drunk driving nor street racing... I say take a taxi or stay there until you are sober(buy a breathelizer if u r in situations like that often) and take the hot rod to the track and let her rip legitimately instead of taking unnecessary risk on the street while u might hurt others... This is not to say im cold blooded and I got absolutely no feelings and love... but what if he crashed into some innocent people? It is great that he took only his own life in this event and not people who had nothing to do with it...
