If the Z is your daily driver...
How long is your commute to work?
I ask because I'm going to be getting my Z in about 2 months and I will be making it my daily driver... I'm also going to be laid off from my job by the end of the month and am looking at diffrent companies. As silly as it sounds, I'm thinking of turning one down because the commute is about 40 miles...

Hey Rgreene--don't know what kind of job you have, but I was furloughed from my job as an airline pilot, found another job, and am currently commuting about 30 miles to work. The Z is a great commuter for me, though sometimes the ride is a little rough on these CA highways
Overall I've been extremely happy with it and actually look forward to the drive!

Strictly from a comfort standpoint you should be okay. The car would make for a pretty good driver if you are actually only driving. If you like to read the newspaper and drink coffee on the way to work then the car might not work all that well for you. The downside is going to be the increased maintenance, washing, etc.
I bought a cheap pickup so that I don't have to drive the Z when it is raining.

My commute is 31 miles each way currently. Used to be 39 miles each way. No complaints and I love my 350 as a daily dirver in Texas. Go for it!
Life is short -- enjoy the ride!

My commute is about 20 miles and I enjoy every minute of it. It is really a nice way to start the day. Actually today is the first day I've gotten to drive my 350 to work since I picked it up on saturday. Never the less I had alot of fun this morning.

My commute is 42 miles, but I carpool with a friend and so only drive every second day. (Can't beat the carpool lane!) The car is great for commuting, except for some lanes in some sections of the highway that cause the "porpoising" bounce. (This can be avoided easily though by choosing a different lane.)
i drive 100 miles a day roundtrip (3 hours total) , i enjoy every minute of it. sometimes you could get that freeway bounce at 30-50 mph as you guys all know but i could live with that any day. great daily driver imo.
I commute about 35 miles each way in my Z on congested california highways. At first I thought it would become a nightmare because the ride is pretty rough (compared to my '88 camry...) Didn't take me long to get used to it, though. Now I don't mind it at all. Great daily driver!

I drive the Z as a service car all over the state of OK and love every mile of it. I ave. about 800 Miles a week. I swore when I ordered the car in 1/02 that it would not be a daily drivin car but I just can't let her sit in the driveway and drive my van.
6200Miles since 11/5/02

I can take I-95 North to work each day and it's 12 miles each way. However, I'm going to take a local road once my Z comes in on 2/9 because it get's kinda messy when I-95 goes into downtown Jacksonville, FL and it's 5 lanes each way and it's like the indy 500 with feeder lanes on both sides.......
So 24 miles round trip either way (local vs. Interstate)

Where are you in SoCal and where is your new job? I drive it once in awhile to work (downtown LA) from the Valley down the 101 - about 14 miles. But it can take over 45 mins, sometimes an hour.
It's fine as a daily driver, but you are going to be annoyed and frustrated when traffic is stopped and the Z just wants to GOOOOOOOOOOOO

Like Mika I used to drive an 88 Camry...(glad those days are gone)...
I thought it would be hard to get accostmed to the rough ride and all the shifting due to congestion....but NO! I love it. It has been a blast for me. I have been driving it for long distances (to and from SD, Vegas, SF) and love every moment. As someone else said...its a great way to start the day!
Also, with the amount of torque you have, you can cheat a little bit in traffic and stay in second all the time...

I drive about 30 miles each way and it's a dream. The reason that I went with the Automatic was because I planed on driving in Austin traffic. I got her on the 27th of Dec and I'm about to turn 2000 miles. I said the same thing as others. I'm going to drive my other car daily and drive the Z when it's nice. Now I look for reasons to take her out. I went to breakfast last sunday for the first time in 5 years.
I live in Santa Ana right now (Orange County) and am looking at a job in El Segundo (LA County)... it sounds like you guys dont mind long commutes at all... well, at least I'll get it broken in faster
