Default What does bleeding the clutch exactly do?

Lately my clutch pedal has been rough and lost its smoothness.
The pedal push and release feel has been inconsistant also.
I was searching the forum and found out about 'bleeding' the clutch,
but I have no idea what it exactly does.
Is it just refilling hydralic system fluid? Or greasing up the system?
Also, will dealer do it for me?

Any help/input will be greatly appreciated

Bleeding.... bleeds the air from the line. Air is compressible while hydraulic fluid is not. Air in the line will give the clutch pedal a soft feel with greater travel. Bleeding removes the trapped air. Maybe your clutch master cylinder is going bad. Dealer will do it for you if you ask.
