my car inspection
Hey guys, I had my inspection today, they told me that my car needs new rotors and pads both f & b. I was suprised because my car is only one year old and i dont think i drive too aggressive. they almost didnt pass me. I am on a budget right now and was wondering if i should buy oem parts or is it worth buying cross drilled rotors and upgraded pads? or mix it up and get stock rotors and upgrade the brake pads? What should i do?
Also the mechanic mentioned something that bothered me, i was curious about test pipes and he said he would never put them in, one because i wont pass inspection (obviously) and two it may cause other problems. What other problems can it cause? or is that person just an idiot?

how much does the stoptech, hoses and pads cost? Does this package offer a good initial bite or is it like the hawk pads that are good only if they are warmed up?
Thanks for the reply

the hawk pads aren't much better than the stock ones other than giving off less dust IMO. however the slotted rotors that come with the stage 2 kit should reduce fade a bit. if you've got around 20k with normal driving on your Z then your due for a brake change. Z's eat brakes pretty fast even w/o track time. do yourself a favor, talk to jason@perfnissan on here about getting the stoptech kit. as for the test pipes, many exhaust shops aren't supposed to remove a stock cat if its operational. if you really don't want to DIY, then just shop around for a mod friendly place that will do it for you.
You will be happy with the stoptech stage 2 kit. If it fits your budget do it. I was in the same situation, so i bought them and changed them out myself. It was pretty easy and, less brake dust, good stopping, next time i will try different pads though

i was there for most of the inspection i think they just eyed it. this might sound stupid cuz its a basic maintanance question but what is the usual life span on rotors and pads? and where can i get my own service manual for the z
