difference with track model
i was just looking for the differences that make the track model Z, (2003) run a 13.7 in the 1/4 mile, compared to a 14.1 with the other model Z's. besides the obvious it having 13hp more. is it the lighter wheels along with something else that im missing. help me out here! thanks!

Huge weight penalty at the wheels for the non-Track versions. I'm sure track conditions might have had something to do with their testing times, but the 6-spoker Rays weigh about 18 pounds (compared to 26-28 pounds for the others).

i bought the last yr they made the performance model<05> the only diff between the track and "other" models is mostly options brembo brakes rays track wheels leather under body air diffusers etc..as far as motor goes.they made to differnt ones in 05 to now present yr 287 hp and 300hp motor..but the diff in trq is very diff.you would think the 300hp motor would have more trq but actually has less than the 287hp motor. The 287 hp motor had 274lbs of trq and the 300hp motor has 260 lbs of trq.i test drove both the 300 and 287hp cars before i bought mine..could i tell the differnce between the 2.A somewhat, but as far as weight goes.this is what made me choose the performace model.the track is the 2 heaviest z of the group.Don't have the excect weight spec's in front of me.hope this might help you out..
The 2003-2004 Track models had the 287hp/274tq engines, same as all other models in those years. The 300hp/260tq engine-variant did not appear until 2005 in the Track and 35th Anniversary models. Also, the track also only comes in a 6-speed manual.
The biggest difference for the Track models, as stated, is the Rays Engineering rims. The fronts are 18x8 and weigh 17.8 lbs and the rears are 18x8.5" and weigh 18.3 lbs (These numbers are approximate guesses, I'm not sure if thats the exact weight but they weigh in that range somewhere). The Track Z also, as stated, has the Aero package which includes the front-under body lip, rear under-body diffusers, and the rear OEM spoiler which helps create Zero-Lift and lowers the drag from .30 to .29. Also, the Track model has some of its sound-deadening removed to keep the weight of the car down as much as possible. This is why despite being one of the most loaded models, its weight is still lower than a Touring which does not include the Brembos.
Most Z's are capable of hitting mid-to-high 13's. I know someone who has hit 13.6 in a base (VeeTec). It really boils down to the driver and track/weather conditions. Don't follow what magazine racers do. Most of them are just journalists with a love of cars.
Lastly, I agree with tienlo. VDC and Brembo's have nothing to do with 1/4 speed. In acuality, they hamper the performance of accerlation because of the added weight of these systems.

ok i guess. i really thought the 03 track model z's had 300hp, but i guess i am wrong. i was just going by what road and track or say motor trend tested the different models as. they always stated that the track z ran a 13.7 compared to the other models all running 14.1.
i fully understand that it all comes down to the driver, as the last car i just had was an 03 evo, man i miss her, but thats besides the point.
i now drive an 03 touring. if the only differences are the wheels and the diffusers, then i know what my first purchases will be.

Similar to 350Z owner A posting a 13.9 second time slip, and owner B posting a 13.8 second time slip. To assume that 350Z B is faster than A is just that, an assumption.
also if you have a Touring, there is extra weight in the leather power seats,
Bose stereo w/ sub wheels are heavier too..
are you trying to make your car a Psudo-track? i did when i had one lol
