The Z is my first import and when i was out an shopping for cars the s2k was pretty high on my list. In fact the only reason I didn't buy it because I couldn't fit in it very well. I mean I could get in it but for some reason I just couldn't get comfortable and I felt out of place. I am not that big either!

Nope. It was obviously designed for the average submarine captain.

its obvious u never tracked a s2k or drivin one on highland valley rd the inside is small and tight because this is a sports car. not a luxury mobile son. ive owned 2 and believe me they are far from being POS as u put it. but why not taste the best of both worlds is what i say. is your friend with the 03 on s2ki.com???? whats his SN??

lol

The S is one hell of a car and I really wanted one when I went shopping for a sports car. I was all over the place on cars to look at from the S to a C5 vette, and the Z wan't really on my list at first and kinda snuck in and stole my heart... I spent a lot of time with the S as my aunt owns an 03', and as much as my heart loved it, my brain just kept telling me that it wasn't practicle.

The S is like a hot girl that you have a one week fling with, but once you've been around eachother for a while it obvious that it really won't work out. The Z on the other hand, maybe a little chunkier and little less nimble just keeps you happy day in and day out...

If I get a used Z will my payments most likely be under $500? I'm shooting for a enthusiast model.

The S is a great car for what it is but today I was on the uphill cruising in 3rd gear at around 25mph and at 3k I put the pedal to the floor and the revs just slowly climb up to 5k by the time I'm going 40mph. Thats when It started to hit me and my Z hunger still stirs and boils my brain.
Your payments won't be under 500 with that trade you are buried in. You have to wait for a while now before you can trade that car unfortunately.

As a former owner of S2K, I have to say all I miss is the xenon lights and the ignition switch. The S2K's insurance for some reason is higher than the Z, or the Z06. In any case, S2K is a fun car to drive, and you shouldn't trade a S2K for another fun car to drive, a Z. If I were you, I would save more money and get the next generation Z, or G. I only traded the S2K because my friend hit my car while my car was sitting in the parking spaces, so I lost that love.

If I'm not mistaken, the S2k's stock numbers are better than the Z's stock numbers. Plus the S's shifter may be the best in the business--at least if you take Motor Trend and Road and Track's word for it.

I purchased my Z over an S2k because the Z has considerably more interior room.

The S is a great car though. Don't let anyone tell you differently.

I have a Z and my sister (who i live with) bought an S2000. I definitely prefer the Z.

In my personal opinion

Z is better because

Really nice porschey lines (personal preference)
Cheaper and easier to mod (engine / handling / stereo)
Feels like a more powerful, muscly car.
Definitely a more powerful car at low rpm's
6 airbags & likely more protection in a crash
You can fit 275's in the front
More luggage space
More legroom
More luxuries (heated seats, folding mirrors, etc)
Harder to spin

S2000 is better because

it SCREAMS at 9000rpm
Far more nimble around tight corners / tracks
slightly better fuel economy
some would say a convertible is better?
slightly older so more aftermarket testing

It's down to buyer preference at the end of the day.

I had an S2000 before I bought the Z. I sold it for several reasons. In no particular order:

1) The highway. 4000+ RPM at 75 MPH and all that wind noise made for a less than enjoyable experience whenever I was on a highway.

2) I was over the convertible thing. I never considered myself a convertible person and living in FL, convertibles are just not that practical. During the summer, the humidity is so high that even at night you sweat your ***** off, so I kept the top up all summer and winter (too cold for having the top down even here most of the time). I also kept finding some cat on my convertible top at night, so I figured if I kept it I'd eventually be out of pocket for a new top.

3) I wanted a more linear, less goofy power band. I had one from the second model year (2001? if I remember correctly), which meant not only did it have the smaller 2.0L engine, but it had the original engine management software that had the less than smooth step up in power at a little over 6000 RPM.

4) The less than stellar sound system (cranked out a massive 40W TOTAL!!!!!)

5) It was F@(&ing YELLOW!!!!!!

Yeah, true. Even on my 05 I'm at 4k by 75mph. Sound system is a little bit better for AP2 because of the tweeters, but nothing special unless you have headrest speakers.

True, good gearbox. Feels great to shift.
Early models had really fragile synchros though and they had to upgrade them to carbon plates in the later models. The s2000 clutches burn out really fast too if you try to drag race them (ie 7500+ rpm launch).

I raced the ap1 once that had I/E and VAFC and pulled on him pretty good. I launch at around 5.5k without bogging in most weather conditions.
