Is this list of bolt-on's and minor upgrades going to break any warranties that I have with my "Z", or am I gonna fly under the radar when I go to get it serviced. I'm guessin' the Midwest Dealer's aren't showin' as much love as the Bay Area and Cali Nissan dealer's since the tuning number's are probably less abundant?

1. Altered Atmosphere Plenum
2. Motordyne Plenum Spacer w/ Iso Thermal Seal
3. P.O.P. Charger
4. Stillen Full Cat Back Dual Exhaust?
5. Helix, Kinetix, or RTEC Hi-Flow Cats (Type to be determined by further questioning thread posted in Intake/ Exhaust room!!)

 

Do a little research on the Magnusson-Moss Act. Basically, any modification you do to your car doesn't void your warranty unless it can be reasonably assumed that your mods contributed to the problem or failure. Your dealer won't refuse to service your car because of any of those mods.

A few things to note.....

1. The pop-charger, because it uses an oiled filter will likely void the warranty on your MAF sensor. If the oil from the filter damages the hot-wire in the sensor, you'll be on your own (MAF sensors are $400 to replace). It's not too common, but it has happened. The pop-charger is still a great mod though. I recommend it.

It is a violation of Federal law to replace a functioning catalytic converter on any car with less than 50K miles. That shouldn't stop you necessarily, but just be aware that HF cats *are* technically breaking the law, so you have to decide. Most cats (I had the RT cats) are advertised "50 state smog legal", so if your state has an emissions program you should be ok (unless you get one of those really **** places that inspects the exhaust system visually and wants to be an @$$ about things).

Do you have a general understanding about a dealers refusal to honor a warranty claim because you have altered the car?

 

That's why I suggested researching the MMA. It basically governs the dealers right to refuse warranty service based on the presence of aftermarket parts.
