Fast and Furious 3: Tokyo Drift trailer
I'm not sure where you guys live, but I see about 3 Supras a year where I am, 30 minutes west of Philadelphia. Maybe in SoCal they are all over the place...?
And I'll second what someone else said above: when was the last time you saw a riced-out Evo? I'm not talking about a louder turbo-back exhaust or louder BOV...I'm talking cheap poorly-fit fiberglass body kits, under-body neons and NOS stickers for no reason.
I would think that the average new-car price of all Z trim levels would be around $31k (this includes the Base to the GT). New-car price of the new Evo's is around $32-33k at my local Dodge/Mitsu dealer. So I would argue against whoever says that the Z is across-the-board more affordable than an Evo. Sure it is if you get a base model, but I believe most Z's sold are Enthusiast which bumps the price by a couple thousand. My point is, I don't think we will start seeing ricer Z's pop up for another couple of years, regardless of when this movie comes out. They will be high-mileage used cars that sell for prices in Civic territory $15k or so, just like all the 280's you see running around.
I think the only one that really caught on, at least around here, was the Eclipse from the first movie. I can't go a day without seeing one of those damn things with a spoiler shaped like the St. Louis arch on the back. But I will agree that there will be accidents, and there will be kids in the parking lot trying to drift FWD cars, just like there was a kid in the parking lot doing burnouts in his Firebird right after I saw the first movie. They should (and probably will) include a disclaimer at the beginning of the movie that "these stunts are done by professional drivers blah blah blah" but then maybe they should show some footage of drifting gone wrong to scare some sense into the under-educated kids in the audience (who probably comprise about 75% of the audience). Let's face it cars and movies about cars do not tend to attract the best and brightest members of our communities.
Anyways....I'm gonna go see it.

i didnt think the trailer looked that bad, you guy's need to take the movie for what it is, not what you think it should be. it's an action packed car movie. no more, no less. You should go see it for the stunts not the acting skills (just like most action movies). Everybody really knows it's not going to do anything to the Z's value or rep. 1 movie, no more.

Just when u think the Japanese create a sport that cant be riced out.(since most ricers cant drive as good as they pretend) Hollywood goes and f*cks it up, whats up with bow wow and the redneck from hell?? What they need is a bunch of civics with neons in a walmart parking lot in the rain pulling the e-brakes...now thats what i call drifting. This movies gonna suck.

i always defined rice as the anti- sleeper, one who makes his car look faster than it really is. i'm sure this is just one deff. of the word, but i think you guys are going way to crazy over this movie............. it's just a movie

I don't think this will have any effect on Z values, other than perhaps a small temporary spike in used resale values. we're not talking about a discontinued car. I do think we'll see more 16-18 yrs olds driving riced out Z's with A$$tastic paint jobs similar to the movie. I mean who really like that kinda crap? it was funny to see a paul walker wannabe (as stupid as that sounds that someone would aspire to be paul walker) and another rapper (if you can even call him that) turned pseudo actor.
will most auto enthusiasts watch it? probably, even if they know its going to be crap. but thats only b/c we're easily amused and have nothing better to do on a friday night.
