Default What is this "part" inside the Z? (probably a noob question)

Hey guys, so this is probably a noobie question, but I'll ask anyway. In the attached picture, what is the little circular thingy right below the gas cap button? It's apparently stuck on there adhesively from the factory and has fallen off a couple of times. I don't quite know what it is so I stuck it back on. It's a small cylindrical thing attached to a wire (I will post a picture of it when "fallen off" if need be). Oh, and I have a '05 Base Z. Thanks all!

did you buy it used? It looks like part of a security system. Basically an electronic fuel/ignition cut. You have to touch a special "key" to it before you start your car to disable the system. My guess is that if you dont have to do it that it isnt hooked up and you can remove it.

Yes, I bought the car brand new. I have installed a CompuStar alarm on it (model 2W900FMR) that is supposed to have all sorts of features. Wow, I never thought that part was aftermarket... always thought it came with the car. Anyone else know for sure?

edit: I have just taken a picture of it with the adhesive off and the wire showing and have attached it.

It looks like a microphone part of an aftermarket alarm system, or yeah maybe a coochie cam.

That's not a base -- aluminum pedals (unless aftermarket).

Ohhh, is that what that is? I have no idea how the glass break sensor works on my alarm, even though I know it's installed. How does it work?

glass-breakage sensors adds a microphone so the control unit can listen for the wave pattern of glass breaking.

oh ya, I still vote for "coochie cam"

Can't tell from the picture... is it optical or fuzzy? If its fuzzy, it could be a mic. If it's optical, it could be a small camera to record the face of the driver when the car is being driven after it is jacked. The video is then sent wirelessly to a website and recorded, so you have video of ur car jacker. I've seen security systems like that on a couple cars before. Very tight.

Driver disabling unit. Somebody steals your car, and it emits chloroform vapors. Probaly wouldn't be so good for the car tho...
