I'll spare you guys the long drawn out sappy story, but to answer the posters question about the testdrive... when the salesguy took me for a spin and hit well over 100mph just getting on the interstate, it was a done deal. lol

I was 23 when bought it, and it was my first big purchase so I was a bit aprehensive about it even though I made enough money to afford it. 2 years later, in retrospect, I don't regret a thing!

Always loved the 300zx. Sitting at the movie theater back in late '02 i believe, waiting for the show to start and then BAM........."The Run" teaser played on the screen. That Le Mans sunset Z ran off with my heart! I think my palms got sweaty after that.........worked very hard for it and i'm still loving it 2 Z's later!

I thought the 350Z was one of the sexiest beasts on the road the first time I saw one in person.

As for my test drive...

I went to Power Nissan in Irvine. I got to test drive a 2004 SB Touring with 6 speed. I drove mildly for the first half of the drive getting used to the nuances as much as I could within such a short drive.

I was on Rockfield (I think) driving towards Bake and needed to make a right hand turn onto Bake (to head back to the dealership) and I was putting along in 5th gear.
The turn is a 90° swooping radius turn that can be done fast, btw.
I dropped from 5th gear to 4th then to 3rd and gunned it with about 50 yards to go to the turn. The turn came fast and the car handled fantastically (of course) and the salesman from the dealership in the passenger seat let out a "Wahoooo!!!" as we exited the turn.

From that day forward, I was sold.

I saw a Daytona Blue coupe driving down the street in Roppongi, Tokyo in the fall of 2002, and at that point I knew I had to have one.

Have owned 200sx, 240z, 280zx, (3) each 300zx Turbos, so it was time for a new one. I loved the way the new Z looked except the slash tailights, not sure about the performance and little crease along the top of the rear deck. I now like the rear as well as any of the Z's I have owned in the past. It performed much better than I thought after I was able to get on it after break in. Better than any other Z I have owned. I was thinking TT's However, I want to get 200K out of it. So, I might not mess with it. Fast enough for me as far as six cylinders go. I'll improve the handling of course. Hopefully, I'll get 200K miles plus out of this one as well. For going really fast I have others ....
I bought this as a daily driver .... now I telecommute. If I drive into work (50miles each way) I take the Sable ... good for execs with suits for lunch etc.

Oh, but the Z gets her time on the road ... mostly around town and weekend trips.

The Z is a dream car for me.
When I was in high school, I fell for the 280ZX and have been hooked ever since.
I finally purchased a Z this year and it's everything a sports car should be.

Got to a point in my life where I could afford a decent sports car. I wanted 2 seats, the best bang for the buck, and something that had SOME practicallity to it as this would be my only car. Never thought much of the 350z in pics, so looked at the S2000, till I saw the size of the trunk. Then as I was leaving the Honda dealership, I was wondering what that gorgeous SS-coloured car was sitting at the Nissan dealership... took the car for a test drive and fell in love. Then I walked into the showroom and saw the Redline Track sitting there and knew it would be MINE!

I thnk Redline is a love it or leave it color. I had seen all the colors, except Redline when I was looking for mine, and had built numerous cars on the website, and didn't think I'd like the red. Then I saw it. So sexy and RED. I bought it on the spot.

Because I wanted a nice post deployment present and it was going to be some type of sports car.

Though of the rx-8 but after driving it I realized it didn't feel sporty at all. It actually had a pretty nice ride. So I decided to get test drivin by a sales person in a black roadster and after I felt all that power and the sexyness I knew I had to get one.

Been in love ever since. Can't wait to get my nismo wing, and sways now. Then onto rims and tires

Nissans have always been a passion in our family. Between my brothers and myself, we have owned 2 280Z, 240SX, 2 Z31s, 2 Z32s(1 NA, 1 TT) couple old Datsuns, even a Pulsar NX SE(Hey-Stop Laughing).

So when I heard about the Z coming back, I definately followed the car.
I went and test drove one -

Done Deal!!

We still have the 240SX & the TT Z32, which is a 500 HP Beast! But still love the 35 oz the best!

haha same thing happened to me! i thought the red looked HORRIBLE on the Z....then I saw one and I was like "hmmm, not bad". i onwed it an hour later!

but to answer the OP's question....I have always loved Nissan and Nissan has always run in our family. Money was burning a hole in my pocket after being in Iraq for a year so I had cash to blow.
