it was actually meant to be called a Fairlady Zed - it's just that the name was not "macho" enough for americans so it instead was named after the engine size (i.e. 2400cc, 2800cc, 3000cc, 3500cc or 3500mL or 350dL = 350z)

Americans have done a lot of things before the rest of the world. I say the rest of the world get with the program.

Do americans tell english speakers of other countries that they can't pronounce their words correctly?? Even within America there are a ton of different dialects. I find it especially funny when british people try to correct americans on grammar. We moved halfway around the world and fought a war just to get away from you, lol.

z or Z Pronunciation Key (z)
n. pl. z's or Z's also zs or Zs

1. The 26th letter of the modern English alphabet.
2. Any of the speech sounds represented by the letter z.
3. The 26th in a series.
4. Something shaped like the letter Z.
5. z's Slang. Sleep.

And that leads me to my next favorite question posed by a famous British comedian... Why do so many US state names end with "as"??

I always get people a little confused when I say zed instead of zee. Today I needed roadside assistance because of a 'key locked on car' problem. When I was giving the guy that 'broke' into my car my VIN, I said J-N-1-Zed-... first. I had to correct myself and say Zee because he had no clue what I meant.

I was born in London. Long live the ZED!

FWI:

1)French Canadians represent over 22% of the total population in Canada.
2)There are Francophones all over Canada, NOT JUST in the province of Quebec.

This has been your PSA of the evening

...and further... Why do they call it a "Rest room"? taking a leak is hardly restful

Correct pronunciation is "haht attahk". I went to school about an hour from Bahston so I am used to the accent, and my roommate had it too.

I think that anybody not smart enough to understand that "Zed" and "Zee" both mean Z shouldn't be allowed to have a drivers licence.

Come on, it takes minimal brains to get it !

My wife, kids, and myself are Americans but recently moved to Vancouver and indeed this is how kids sing the song in my daughter's class. So now I use Zee or Zed, or Wash-room or Rest-room depending on whom I am talking to
