I just finished encoding all of the videos off the dvd. The first time they were encoded, they were in SVCD format which is more or less as close to a dvd as you're going to get without being on a DVD. Not the same crispness as DVD but better than you'd think.
Then I looked at the file sizes of the svcd's and they were absolutley huge. I mean, 400+ megs for one of the clips. Just ONE of them.
So nope, I re-ripped and re-encoded everything from the ground up so I could save them as .avi and then compress them over to windows media format. The .avi's are fairly large as well.. 100 megs and up so I won't be posting those. There is little difference between these two formats.
In any case, there is a TON of video and as always, it is high bandwidth type of stuff. If the need is there, I can re-encode again at a lower data rate and file size. The screen size would be smaller, but those on dial up wouldn't be cursing quite so much. Let me know if this is needed. It'll take some work, but I'll do it if you guys want me to.![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Here's the video links. There is 177 megs of video in total. (enter ooohs and ahhhs here) (better yet, Brothers and Sisters, can I get an Amen?)
(thank you)
Here you are....remember, right click on link and then choose "save as" and save to your desktop. These are NOT streaming files.

Clip 4h - 2:21 12 megs - History of the Z - 1996 - Nissan commemorates 26 years of Z. Last U.S. car built.
Clip 5 - 2:34 13.1 megs - Close ups of 350Z standing still and running. (cool video)
I hope you all enjoy the videos, I am sure you will! I know I did!.
Oh yeah, one more request... please do not hotlink these files and place them on other sites. If you want to place the file on another site, download the file and upload it to your own server. Any site found hotlinking with us will be banned through ip address so they cannot access the site at all in future through links. Sorry to be an ***, but bandwidth is expensive and this video is going to probably cost close to $200 to host after all is said and done bandwidth wise. It's worth it though.![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
After all, your donations run the site so you should get something out of it!
Thanks for all your support, as always!

Jay, the videos are excellent.
Man some of those commercials brought back memories. The Z has always been such an excellent sports car. The commercials are all very good but my favorite is the 300ZX getting chased by the street bike and the jet. That is a cool commercial.
Also, you can see the passion in the Nissan guys when they talk about the new Z. They really love this car too.
Thanks for all of your time and hard work Jay.

cursing myself for selling the Z, i have this advice for the new Z owners here that the current guys likely know as well as i do (or better)
DO NOT SELL YOUR Z. EVER. NOTHING IS AN IMPROVEMENT. HAVING KIDS? BUY A USED COROLLA. WIFE SAYS ITS IMPRACTICAL? RE-MARRY. BUT FOR THE SAKE OF ALL THAT IS RIGHT IN THE WORLD, ***KEEP_YOUR_Z***
Also, thanks JmanZ : )

Jay,
Thanks so much for taking the time to provide these videos to everyone. Most importantly, I think this will give those who are relatively new Z Car fans to learn more about this car and its interesting history- the Z has been around for 32 years, and by knowing about the models that preceded the 350Z, I think new owners will be able to better appreciate their cars.
I've seen those commercials before (they've all been available online for a few years), and it was so cool how they added some of the magazine ads to the videos- many of them I hadn't seen before. I wish they would have included the "Ken and Barbie" commerical- that one is my favorite- if there is interest (and available bandwidth), I can send that one to Jay for posting.
It was great to hear Ajay talk about the car- I wish we had more footage of him talking about the design, as well as others who were involved with the project. It would have been cool if he took us for a tour of the car, instead of sitting in front of it- no matter, I'm sure I"m going to watch that clip a few hundred more times or so...
Anyway, thanks again!
Ethan

I too have the GI Joe and Barbie 300ZX commercial... it will be online in the media section in the new site, along with other commercials that were not used by Nissan for their DVD. (I believe I have two or three others regarding the 300ZX)
I agree that in knowing the past, you can better appreciate the present and the future Z's.
My first Z was a 78 280Z, last year before they went to the ZX style in 79. I loved that car, but couldn't afford to fix bring it back to mint condition as I was younger and didn't have much money. It wasn't in the best shape but it sure flew. At times you'd wonder if you were going to lift off the ground! (it often seemed)
I sure hope the Spyder doesn't look have as good as what I have been told it does or I am in serious trouble. Not sure I have room for two 350Z's.![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Then again, one Spyder and one 350ZR (in late 2003 or mid 2004?) would look great side by side. Thank God my wife understands my little boy need to have fast cars.![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Do you think those videos of Ajay were taken the same day Jeff got us those first pics of the Daytona Blue? Looks like it was at the same place to me. The red brick courtyard.

Matthew... they were. Jeff had sent me a couple other photos and then asked me not to air them because he wasn't sure what they were of and he didn't want to be on Nissan's hit list. (he thought he'd save that role for me)
After all, airing photos of strangers can be a bad thing without their okay.
It was Ajay though, no questions.![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)

One question, how come you pay so much for hosting? Why don't you host this yourself? Hosting yourself is cheap and easy.
Just a thought,
Todd

Todd... this isn't meant to sound the wrong way, but it's obvious you don't understand large scale website traffic etc.
Hosting a small site is cheap and easy, hosting a site that pushes 300 gigs of traffic + per month is far from cheap, or easy. I do host this myself, on a dedicated server.
When a company says "unlimited bandwidth" for example in their advertising, trying to get people to sign up... like ci-host.com for example, read the fine print.
There is no such thing as unlimited, there is always a catch. With Ci-host, one of the nation's largest hosting companies, their "unlimted" package is shut off hen you hit 20 gigs of transfer. So you're unlimited until you hit 20 gigs, after that they charge you $20.00 per gig over. So if you did 30 gigs, you're alloted 20 gigs so you went over by 10 gigs. 10 gigs X $20 per gig is $200. Scary huh? Luckily, I don't host with ci-host. I used to though, then I woke up to their scam. Pretty much all hosting companies are like this. It never kicks in unless you actually have a large site doing a lot of traffic or bandwidth though so most people never know.
Today's lesson in bandwidth was brought to you by the numbers3, 5 and 0 and the letter Z.

Are you not using, say, a DS1 or DS3 line? When you start moving away from DSL (if that is what you are using), then you stop running up against the per GB charges you talked about. (DS1 uses T1 speeds of 1.544Mbps. DS3 uses T3 speeds of 44.736Mbps).
My goal here is really to be helpful, if at all possible, not to question what you are doing or how. Please understand this. I think you are doing an excellent job of administering this site.

Thanks,
Todd

Todd, no worries
Glad I wasn't offensive because that wasn't my intention.
The server is on a network that is running with several OC3 lines. If I were to have my own T1 or T3 line... well, do you know how much those go for per month?
($1500-2000 for a dedicated T1 and upwards of $20,000 and up for a T3) Granted... those prices were from a couple years back when I looked into it for a different project I was a part of.
It's crazy expensive in the game sometimes, but that's cool.... keeps us sharp.![Smilie](https://my350z.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif)
