we did, many did, before the release, we were given the same response as sunroof. the roof was not shaped properly for such an application.
validity to the claim? maybe. most likely cost outweighed benifit in their opinion.
and chopping the whole top off is far easier than part of it. they are also charging a 3000$ or more premium for it. itd be tough to justify that whole line of targa tops when they already have a hard top and convertable option.

doesn't the 350Z have a curve on the top like the 300z and the supra---I think it would be possible. My guess is Nissan either wants ist customers buying a hard top or convertible nothing in between.

i'm wondering, would it be possible that the 350z's weight could be from, the winshield being reinforced just like a convertables is to support a rollover, and if so, why couldn't u put a t-roof in?? and could u make a custom cage, and then put the t-roof in??

The hatch has a hinge on the roof so the targa wouldn't necessarily look that clean anyhow. I'd personally rather have one or the other (convert or hardtop), as glass weighs more than metal. All of my previous cars had a sunroof, including my 3000GT's glasstop. I liked them, especially the glasstop, but I don't miss it, in all honesty. If the car's going to have that weight, I'd rather it was in chassis stiffening than glass, IMO...

I'd love the T-top: security of a hardtop when you wanted it, view of a glass moon roof when closed, fresh air and sunshine when off. Best of all worlds. Second choice: standard moon roof.

A removable metal roof wouldn't add much weight. The only added weight would be the clamps to secure the roof when mounted. Figerglass wouldn't be bad as long as its painted, so that it won't scratch and mark easily. I'd rather have an aluminum removable targa-type roof, though. But, I do like having the hardtop and chassis stiffness. I'm much more of a performance oriented person...
