Default test drive!!!!!!!!!!

I was at the dealer today and was SO close to getting to test drive the Z! but unfortunatly they said i needed my mom or dad with me since im not 25 so next saterday im going down there with my mom and im gonna test drive that suker! wish me luck!
I also test drove the following today. Ford mustang gt 2006, mazda rx-8, VW rabbit (peice of ****) and a hyundai tiburon or whatever. the huyanai i only drove cause i got a 40$ gift gas card so hell its free gas so lol. but I have alot more respect for these cars now, i thought (with my little knowledge) that the mustang gt and the rx-8 held nothing on my future STI or 350Z whatever I go with but those are some fast cars and ALOT of fun in manual!

I test drove mine at 19 and they didn't care. Then I came back with a friend of mine to test it again and they let us take it out without a sales rep in the car (since it's only a 2 seater,) and didn't care.

I guess they made a good decision in trusting me... I bought it.

wow you guys are lucky!!! specially the last poster!. I think (my opinion) is they wouldnt let me do it cause 1 i dont have a credit score yet and they checked for some reason. 2 they said unless im buying it like within a week i needed my parents ... but yeah the VW guy will never get my buisness it was a big insult and i poop on his grave! anyways im SOOOOOO excited to drive the Z soon and finally decide between the STI or the Z... But unfortunatly ive got the mustang GT in the lineup now... I liked the rx-8 buts its even MORE money then the STI so it was out lol. anyways thanks for the support guys!

They wouldn't even let me test drive a used '03 Z. I drove up in my '03 WRX with my friend and the guy wouldn't even let me go test it with the salesman. That was also after like 30 minutes discussing financing, trade-ins, down payments, and what-not. Needless to say I won't be buying my Z from that dealership (or more specifically that salesman). He said I wouldn't be able to drive it until I commited to buying it. How the hell do they expect to sell cars like that?

We then went to VW to test drive the new GTI as my friend is a die-hard old-school VW fan and he wanted to see if the new GTI was any good. The Sticker price was $26k with the options it had and the salesman just copied my friends license and handed us the keys. He said he'd normally go with us, but somebody was picking up their new car and he had to show them all the features and stuff and how to use them. My friend will definitely go back to that guy when he buys one. (he liked it a lot)

They just re-released the Rabbit. I haven't checked, but I imagine they're just calling the Golf- The Rabbit again.

The same thing happened with me when I tried to buy an s2000 at age 23.

Needless to say, they did not get the sale.

I'm 26 and when I went to buy my Z they told me "We don't give test drives until after the paperwork is started and you show that you're capable of buying the car." At first I was insulted but a lot of people do test drive sports car and have NO intention of buying it...they just want to say I drove a Z, z06, S2000, G35, etc. Then when an actual buyer comes along the car isn't new anymore it's actually used with about 50 miles of being treated like a free rental. So I started the paperwork and of course after the testdrive there was no way in hell I was not taking the Z home.....wash it..and gas it up please...where do I sign?

That's true, but they could've said they wanted to do a credit check or something and scheduled me an appointment to test drive the car at a later date. Instead he said I had to commit to buying the car for me to test drive it at which point he lost the sale. If I can't drive it first to see if I like it, I'm not going to buy it.

I understand completely...I may have threatened to take my buisness elsewhere but I was already at the best Nissan dealership in town. And other than their "no test drives on Z's until you can prove you can buy it" rule they were actually a great dealership and I don't regret giving them my buisness.

Im 34 and I test drove a nice Touring at Rothrock in Allentown PA. Not only did the sales ***** make me and my wife wait an hour for a scheduled appointment, he told me I couldn't drive the car off the lot. Didnt offer to go with me, just "cruise it around the sales lot".... Um let me think about that...

Later douche

5 days later I bought my 03 enthusiast. More money for my trade and we started negotiating at 19K instead of 24k for the touring.

"You can take it for a test drive around the lot."

"Is there a road track on this lot somewhere?"

"No."

(Long Pause as you both stare at each other)

"Thanks for your time. Good-bye."

I am a salesman at Nissan.. and what we do is get the potential buyer to pin point the exact model they want to buy. then we take them for a test drive. make them fall in love with the car. then go inside do paperwork/credit application and get the manager to crunch the numbers...

so our #1 goal is to let the person test drive the car and fall in love with it.. no bs "you gotta be qualified first" or "paper work first" stuff

hope this helped

With a car like the Z that is exactly the attitude to have. Even if they weren't really all that interested they would probably still fall in love with it. I probably would've bought the car if the salesman/dealership had that attitude, even though I probably would've had trouble affording it at the time.

That's great but what if the person has $2 to their name? Even if they fall in love with it they aren't buying that car! They just want to tell their friends "Yeah, I drove a 350Z..it was awesome! I'm going to save up and buy a used '03 in about 7 years."
