Default Window Problem!

Well, now I have yet another stupid problem. My window rolls up and down when it feels like it. I tried switching my switchboard to see if it was the switch that is damaged and it's not. I don't see how its the motor, cause it rolls up and down with out struggle. But only when it wants to. I don't wanna take it to dealer, cause they wanna charge me for everything. Rip off. Anyone have ideas, thinkin about taking it to a local tech that knows about Z's.

this should be coverd in the warranty. It seems to be a problem with the actual window switch.

It's not the switch. Cause I took my friends switch piece off his door and connected to mine to see if it was the switch. It wasn't. He also has a z. So, I have no idea what it is. I'm over warranty, so they don't wanna cover it.

Its a bad window sensor or the sensor needs adjusting, My Z had the exact same issue. It may not be covered under warranty because its "an adjustment" I scream and yelled and they coverd mine, but you may not be so lucky

Get em to check the window regulator. It is what causes the window to go down... it thinks something is interfering on the up travel and so it reverses to a partly open position -- it's a safety feature. The regulator is too sensitive and so if the window sticks or binds, it thinks something is in the way.

The way it does this is that it senses the motor load current. If the motor draws normal current it operates normally. If in the midst of window travel it senses a higher load current it immediately reverses the motor.

It is also a sign of a possible failing motor... which would draw a higher current.

It should be warranty.

If the window sticks a little because of the tinting, it will draw a higher motor current. There is a spray silicone lubricant available that you could try on the rubber window seals -- just be careful of overspray.

I have the same problem with mine on the drivers side. If I slam the door it will work again. I dont know if the window motor just has a "flat" spot in it somewhere that wont let it work or what. Its out of warrenty so I need to know what to fix so I can do it myself.

Had the same problem a few weeks ago. Driver side window would stop working intermittently.

I stopped at the dealer once and the problem could not be duplicated, window worked fine. A few days later when the problem reocurred I stopped at the dealer again, and this time it was obvious that the window was not working.

Window motor assembly was replaced under warranty. Works fine now.

Question

Thanx guys I really appreciate ur input. It's very frustrating that I have to deal with this problem with an 05 Z. I never had so many issues with any other car. Stupid me didn't get the extended warranty. If I knew that they had so many issues, I would have def gotten it. I have 40,000 miles. Got my Z at the end of 04. Early 05 Z. Put that many miles on it cause my GF lives in NYC and I live in Delaware. So, usually go there every weekend. I'm goin to take the door apart and see if I see anything I can fix myself. I really don't wanna pay all that money for a damn little window problem. Sux to have to deal with these problems with a new car. It's always sumthing isn't it!

I had this problem on my passengers side window. It was due to the window rail, the plastic on the top had wore out and was cracked so the window was free to roll up higher then usual when the sensor would pick that up it would push it down half way. I simply bought two new rails from e-bay for like $20, problem fixed.
